    Suffering from scary Baclofen withdrawals

I'm in a spot of bother. I recently stupidly bought Baclofen to self medicate off alcohol. But my addiction issues meant i went right up to 120mg per day for 1 month. I am running out of Baclofen so am attempting an emergency taper. From 120, to 100 yesterday, 80 today, 60 for the next 3 days, then 30 for the next 3 days.

Last night there were some disturbing symptoms. The first few hours of sleep i kept waking up every 30 minutes but felt like i had been alseep for hours. Then this morning i had 2 seperate episodes of waking up and everything spinning, heart racing and it felt like i was going to faint/blackout at any moment. After about a minute of coming around my heart would slow but i would notice i was hardly breathing.

That must be dropping in and out of conciousness in my sleep through lack of breathing. Ive been practising lots of deep breathing this morning and feel a bit better but i am worried about the next few days as the taper may be well to fast.

Because of past problems, A&E is not very sympathetic and the doctor wont prescribe anything else to help, but i am determined to get of the baclofen on this taper, no matter what it takes.

Can anyone help with these questions please.

Because ive only been on it a month, with the withdrawals be less severe than anyone on for longer?

Last night i had codeine and L Theanine to help me sleep, is this dangerous to do? I dont want to kick off any delirum through lack of sleep

Im going to battle through the day as long as i can without it and take most of the doses later so i can get to sleep.

Baclofen is a scary drug to come off.

    Thankyou
    Patrick

    Hi Patrick,
not so nice history... but ok, rest calm, at least you are titrating down and not stopping abruptly that can be obviously worser.
Let's don't talk right now about self-medication and running out...
As i rememebr Dr. Ameisen titrate down really fast from 270 to 120 in 12 days (NOT A PROTOCOL TO ADVICE!). Was not 120 to 0 but anyway...

Not easy to give you some advice apart this of stay calm.
If it did happen to me i would try to don't stay alone explaining to that person the situation...
You cannot call your family doctor to ask for a quick help?
Maybe someone here can give you a name of a Dr. that already prescribe Baclofen to ask for few pills more just to tape off slower... but no idea at all if possible.

I'm even thinking if maybe could be better to divide last 6 days differently to don't make 30 to zero, but i have to think about it (and i'm at all a doctor!).
Someone else will surely come to give you an advice.

PS: to everybody that read this thread:
Baclofen is NOT a dangerous drug but has to be used with its own specific precautions like any other drug.
Baclofen pills are not candies. Is it so hard to understand?
    Baclofen started: January 2013
    Switch (sort of): April 2013 / ~165mg
    November 2014: stable at 45mg: 10AM-15mg, 1PM-15mg, 5PM-15mg

thanks emc, im not sure what happened to my profile i made, i couldnt log in.

But its good to know there are people out there in similar situations and trying to help.

Anyway this morning was very alarming, So far today i have taken just 10mg, i have had bouts of nausea but i dare not fall asleep incase the same thing happens.

Im going to try and ride a few more hours out with positive thoughts, lots of water and L Theanine then dose later and stick to the 80mg for the day. Its 12pm now and just slight feelings of discomfort.

That will be 120mg to 80mg in 2 days, so i hope everything will be ok over the night.

Have you access to any benzos Partick. I came off Baclofen pretty fast after being on it for around a month and Diazepam was a life saver

Hi tlc. No i don't but i'm having a bit of a spiritual experience today. I'm slowly realising a lot of withdrawals are instigated through fear. And there is research that shows you can heal yourself spiritually. Watching some really interesting videos and articles on naturalnews dot com. Just keeping my mind busy with positive, healthy and hopeful thoughts and not thinking about the baclofen or any sought of fear. Nearly 2pm and ive still only had the 10mg with todays dose meant to be 80mg. Going with this positive experiment, will update later.

PS I have also been on 8+ beers a day and havent touched one yet today.

Im up to 20mg at nearly 5pm. Just opened a first drink as my head was starting to feel like exploding. This feels very much like a dopamine rebound, experienced when on GBL. Some dark feelings but then i have been researching a lot today and filled my head up with tons of information. So i'm attempting to go from 120 to 0 in 7 days, this is going to be interesting.

Patrick- where are you located? Have you seen the Where are the Doctors thread, and are you close enough in proximity to seen any of them?

Also why did you decide to go off baclofen in the first place, is it just lack of new prescription?

Hmmm. I smell a troll, but I'll bite nonetheless in case this is for real, since running out of bac is a scary prospect.

Head is pounding, but im determined not to start taking the tablets to feel better, i need to get the taper down, no doctors this weekend.

Skully im in Cardiff, no chance of getting anymore, i bought it over the counter in thailand, had i realized it would be similar to GBL withdrawals i would have never touched it, i did 6 months rehab for that stuff. Have to taper with what ive got, even if i have to use alcohol

Alcohol may very well make you *feel* a little better. My drinking increased for sure when I was coming down on bac - and I wasn't tapering all that quickly but I'd been on bac (over 200mg) for over a year. But when it comes to bac withdrawal there is no substitute.

Just try to calm yourself down a little bit. The mental can be really bad, but what physical symptoms do you actually have? Being on bac for a month, well you're most likely not going to have a seizure or any truly horrible physical withdrawal. Try to rest, relax, go for a nice slow walk outside if you can, and know that you will feel better soon.

I am not a doctor; this is not medical advice.

Im in Cardiff, no way of getting any more Baclofen, i bought it over the counter in thailand, if i had of known the withdrawals would be like G, id have never touched it, did 6 months rehab for GBL, so i know quite a bit about GABA antagonists, which is why ive bought alchohol as an emergency

Thanks Stuck. The Alcohol has massively helped, without any other assistance except utulizing what i have. Its nearly 10pm and on 50mg, think i may need another 20 to settle down and try at 70 today. Its been a shitty 24 hours, still my head feels like its going to explode but i havent been buzzing today, if anything it was only after the vodka did i feel i could manage this taper for today.

It is important to add that i took baclofen originally to help get of the alcohol but then i found recreational values and thats when i ended up on 120mg in thailand and only for 1 month, so physically im ok, just the slowed down breathing, chest pains and sore head and early morning dramas, hopefully tonight will be ok, but thats my only worry on an otherwise successful 2nd day tapering

And just in case this is for real, the dosage reduction is quite simple and easy for that dosage amount. A few google clicks and you can easily find the quick titration down schedule -and it is quick and easy. I still wish the poster success in his/her removal of baclofen. I just hope pat is safe with all the other medications.

And Pat, please let us in on the recreational values of baclofen so we can try. You are awesome for letting us know.
