Does anyone have any experience with antabuse acheiving long term sobriety?

    antabuse

I have been taking it for 3+ years. I didn't commit to it at first, because I guess I just wasn't ready...but when I got FED UP with my life, I stopped "forgetting" to take it. It really does work. I always say that Antabuse and MWO saved my life.

        antabuse

In Oct 2012 I went on antabuse. I only stayed on it for a few months - but it gave me the kick I needed to get non-negotiable AF time under my belt and learn permanent new strategies. I also became a fixture on MWO.
I have been sober since Oct 2012.
I tried many other strategies before going on AB. I was not keen to take it (because of possible side effects) but I was determined to quit drinking. As many say it takes the 'noise' and decisions about whether or not to drink away. It was the short sharp help I needed at a time when my work life was super busy and stressful and I could not take any time away from it or my family.

          Treetops-
I also have a history with antabuse.i was sober for 7 years and I used it for my first 3.i am on day 2 and I took my first dose.i like how it quiets the debate in your head.sure, cravings or thoughts will creep up but will not to amount to anything if they cannot be acted on.this time around I need to learn other proactive strategies to turn my life around.but I feel the medicine does play a vital role.

            antabuse

Jshioh- I have experience with AB. I've been successfully AF for 5 months now, working towards 6. I myself pair it with baclofen but only after doing so very cautiously and doing a loooot of reading. There's more detail and info on my experience in my Skullbaby's Progress thread if you're interested. Good luck.

Yes, Antabuse makes me very tired, so I began taking it at night before bed...

Baclofen is a muscle relaxant that in a large enough dose, quashes craving for alcohol. It's still not a widely accepted treatment, so finding someone to prescribe it can be a challenge. Ordering it without a prescription from an overseas pharmacy is also an option, but that gets $$$. I'm on both baclofen (to quash short-term craving and anxiety attacks) and Campral, which repairs the neurotransmitter imbalances in the brain brought on my chronic alcohol abuse.
In the middle of my life's journey, I found myself in a dark wood, as I had lost the straight path. It is a difficult thing to speak about, how wild, harsh and impenetrable that wood is. Just thinking about it recreates the fear. It is scarcely less bitter than death, but in order to tell of the good that I found there, I must tell of the other things I saw there. --Dante, paraphrased

I did not do well with Antabuse. I may not have been on the right dose. I decided to have a beer to see if I could get away with it. I got away with that beer and a lot more after. It didn't make me sick, but I'm lucky it didn't kill me. Everyone laughed at how red I got. I'm sure my blood pressure shot way up. I only took it for a few days and then stopped. For me, it was very dangerous, but I think I'm probably in the minority. Just a word of caution.

I had 3x6 weeks period of not drinking on it but found after 6 weeks life got soooo boring so stopped. I also gradually tested it and also found my face just went bright red and I mean RED. I think if you use a high dosage the effects would be more but when I took 250mg a day everybody complained I stunk of garlic. I think it is a great tool and would start using it again if I could get over the garlic smell and find something else to do wiyh my spare time. Does anybody have advice on either of these 2 problems because life as an alcoholics is not pleasant
Its easier not to start than stop
