    Hit my Switch!

    Hi All

I'm very glad to tell you all that I hit my switch last Thurday after following the advice of you guys to try a few nights alchohol free!

I've not had a drink since last Thursday and since then the symtoms of Baclofen that I was having like sleepiness and ants under my skin have dissappeared too.

I found it difficult the first three nights as I found myself having to confront the though of being without alchohol and it took me a few days to get over the anxiety that created but now 6 days later I feel great!

Thanks soooo much to everyone that helped out the other week when I was finding it difficult to put up with the side effects!

I really do wish you all the success I've been experiencing, (and I hope it continues, still not sunk in yet that its actually happening ... its been 20 years since I have felt this way!)

very glad to hear this mickey. stay at the dose level you're at for now and don't start immediately titrating down.

i'd go for at least month or so before you even consider coming down and try to avoid situations where alcohol will be on the menu for the forseeable future. see how it goes and how you feel, but well done!!

                Congrats!

Don't touch alcohol until you've solidly replaced it with something else, that's a bad habit that will catch up to you very fast if you're not vigilant.

Run your victory lap, but be prepared for things to get harder and unfelt regrets to surface- it's just part of the healing process.

                    Hit my Switch!

I know I should probably stay at this dose, (225mg btw), for the next month at least but when I start going down, how will I know when I've gone down too far?

Will I start wanting alcohol again? if so how do I avoid it? do I increase my dose back up again? if so how much?

                      Hit my Switch!

congratulations, its a great feeling and its somewhat surreal, it still is to me now.

i've been at my switch dose for nearly 5 months (295mg). I'm considering now going down to 200mg slowly. I would hold off for a few months if i was you. Recovering from alcoholism takes a while, stopping drinking is one thing, it takes time to normalise from the years of abuse. For a lack of a better term, there are changes in the brain that need to take place, i wish i was more learned in that area of what actually happens with gaba, glutamate, seretonin, endorphines etc etc

I feel much different 1 month out compared to now (better). Look to fill the void with something else, or find the you that existed before alcohol. I find that i spend my time in a similar way to how i did before i started drinking.

For me it worked like this: I went down slowly, 10 mgs per month or so, until mild cravings re-appeared. Then I immediately went up 10 mgs, mild cravings disappeared and there was my maintenance dose.

Since you're at a way higher dose, after you stayed at your switch dose for at least a month, you could drop 25 mgs per month for the 1st 3 months and after that 12.5 mgs (I assume you have the 25 mg pills) per month, until mild cravings re-appear and then immediately go up 12.5 mgs.

Common knowledge learns you should expect your maintenance dose somewhere between 2/3 and 1/2 of your switch dose.

Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor, just a fellow ex-alcohol addict. The advice I give here is according to my best knowledge, but following it is for your own risk

                          Hit my Switch!

Congratulations Mikey! I too am sitting at my switch dose which happened a few weeks ago. I did have to lower my dose by 20mg due to the side effects that were really getting the best of me, but I feel much better now and still am indifferent.
