What are you going to do today?

Class this morning, and about three hours worth of work before that starts in 2 hours. Woops.

What're you doing this sunshine-y Monday?

I just pick it from the garden of the house and apartments next door, which we bought from our neighbor.

Today I'm going to finish some reports. I have to make some money, because the cash flow is going in the wrong direction fast, lately.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

The only danger is falling off a mountain, which people do occasionally, and then are never heard from again, but we are reasonably experienced. As to physical fitness, I've been doing some weights, and hiking with my kids strapped to my back in a harness. They aren't as heavy as the pack we will be taking, but I reckon I'll be ok.

It's in the middle of winter in the coldest part of the country, so we plan on freezing almost to death, but I won't mention the temperature for fear of being laughed off the forum.
That's a sweet image. Bleepster strapping his babes to his back for practice and fitness. I'm sure the kiddos love that too! Yeah, I'm quite sure we would laugh at you regarding the temps you might think would "freeze you almost to death". :H

We had the Polar Vortex come down a couple of times this past winter. Don't ask me to explain that phenomena, but it equals not good as far as cold temperatures. It makes it like the North Pole, I guess. I had to work a bunch that week and the other week it happened. One morning my car thermometer read -22 degrees! Not sure what that is in Celsius, but it's definitely weather you would freeze to death (and quickly) in. There's something called the wind chill that made it feel much colder. It felt hard to breathe. I was a little freaked out if I got stranded in it. That whole week, I'd be driving and see -18 and -16 on my car in the morning. It was crazy!

But, I guess it's what we know. :-) Make sure to bring warm clothes and avoid falling off the mountain. Most importantly, have a wonderful time! Come back and tell us all about it.

I agree, Red, it is a sweet picture.

bk, shame is the enemy. Sleep and food and sunlight are the allies. :l

X, I'm hoping that today the cash starts flowing in the right direction. Money stress really kerfuffles my world.

I'm off to do some damn chores. And loads of chemistry homework. pffffffft. It will feel so much better, SO MUCH BETTER, when some of these trivial pain-in-my-foot things are done, though. I'm tired of looking at the same old list.

Hope it's a good day, folks.

What are you going to do today?

I hope it's turned or turning into a brighter day for you, Bk. I agree, I think the shame only makes us want to drink more.

Xadrian, there's a question I've been meaning to ask. You stated when you went snorkeling a week or two ago that it was your first time. Is there a reason why? You live on Aruba, correct? I think that would be a regular thing for me in your location. It's a must when I'm lucky enough to take a vaca in the Caribbean.

Ne, good luck getting the weeds out of your life now. I agree that those things are difficult to do, but you will feel so much better. I ended up spending Sunday doing things like that around here rather than weeding. For some reason, I'll want to do just about anything else, but the stuff to help me get organized. And it's those things that loom on me the most. I think in my case it might be ADD. Or maybe most people are like this? Who knows, but good luck tackling that list.

I'm drinking my coffee and slowly trying to configure what my day will look like. There's plenty to do for sure. I didn't want to get out of bed this morning!

When I moved to Aruba 11 years ago, I thought that I was going to have way more free time then when I lived in the Netherlands.

Wrong thought: the inefficiency on the island makes everything take twice as much time as back in the Netherlands and people here are really egoistic in certain ways.
Doctors authorities, banks, etc. have no respect for your time and think only their own time is important. They let you wait for hours, even if you have an appointment and the seem to think it's normal. It's really frustrating.
Moreover, being self-employed and making some money costs a lot of time and in my free time, I am trying to build my own house which already took 6 years and is still not finished.

Then I have to get my family some attention and for the rest I have to close my eyes for a couple of hours.

And all of that has to be done in 24 hours. It's nearly impossible!

If I went to the beach 25 times in the past 11 years, that will be overrated I'm afraid.

For a 2-week vacation it's a beautiful island, but to live here, it's not nearly the paradise they want you to believe.
If my wife didn't have her family over here (she's Aruban), I probably would move to New Zealand or so, but wouldn't stay here.

On the other side, I wouldn't be eager to go back to the Netherlands also.
Let's just say that everything has it's advantages and its disadvantages.

So yes, it really was the first time I went snorkeling in my life.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

What are you going to do today?

Thanks for response, Xadrian. That all makes sense. And all the best to you that some money will flow in. My life is very chaotic and I'm overworked too. It's just in a different way. I'm sure a lot of people could say to me, you have this or that so close to you, why don't you do that more? Well, much of the time I can barely slow down to figure out what it is I need to accomplish!

I have figured out some that for today, however. So, I better get back to it.

Friends, I hope a lovely day for you all. :h

What are you going to do today?

A few months ago, I decided that on Wednesdays I'm going to do something other than my regular job, because I can't pull a complete week anymore. When I'm working a whole week, mostly on Thursday afternoon I am drained and am not productive at all for the rest of the day and on Friday.

So, I decided to do something completely different on Wednesday, unless there's an emergency case (which often happens, but then I pick another day or part of another day).
So far, it works fine for me. It breaks the week, so I only have to work 2 days in a row.
Not that I'm not busy on Wednesdays, but it doesn't feel like working.
And on Thursday I have energy enough to do my job for the rest of the week.

Wednesday mornings I spend with the house and apartments we bought next door (one week the garden, the other week maintenance) and in the afternoon I first do some banking and the administration of the house/apartments and after that I try to have some quality time with my kids.

So, today I'm planning to do some cleaning-up and some gardening next door in the morning, do some banking and administration in the early afternoon and after that I will take the kids to the bank to deposit some cash (which will probably take an hour), then I want to go to a garden center to look for some suitable shrubs for my future hedge.

After that, I will try to make a fence for 4 land turtles we will get from the neighbors, who will move abroad on Sunday. My eldest boy is very enthousiastic about the turtles. We had one before, but he escaped.
Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

What are you going to do today?

That's a good solution, Xadrian, the taking a day off midweek.

What're the turtles for? Children's entertainment or food? My parent's place has a lot of snapping turtles and I LOVE them. They're huge and slow and look just like mini-dinosaurs. Their shells look like they were drawn by Dr. Seuss, because they don't fit into them. They used to be food, and there aren't that many of them left.

I have no idea what I'm doing today. pfffffffft.

What are you going to do today?

Yesterday I went randomly strolling through Target, and came across boxes of mason jars. Immediately I pictured sitting on a back porch somewhere, maybe overlooking a pool, sipping mojitos or margaritas with lots of ice out of these mason jars. Hot sun, cold drinks, surely women in skimpy bikinis lounging nearby, and the desire for drink hit me with an uncommon force. F**kin' summer.

Not doin' a goddamned thing today. (Not exactly true, been writing all morning.) Still in my PJs, blinds drawn, hiding out in as much darkness as I can carve out of the bright-ass sunshiny day outside.

Where the hell were you yesterday? It was 75 here, beautiful, light breeze, and I haaaaaated every sunhine-y minute of it. Today is happy-happy.

I have an uncanny attachment to canning jars, fwiw. I store everything in them. Except booze.

Welp girlfriend- been staying very close to my counselor and I have to admit she is fucking fabulous.
Doesn't let anything by.. I sent her an email just to vent & she says how bout we chat... She is on sorta a vacation... Talk about feeling supported.

Anyway... Funny you suggested GABA cause we talked about it and I am going to do some of my own research plus ask around here... It may be my next avenue... I am going to try a few holistic things in the mean while.. I know Stuck will have a hay day with that.. But it will keep me busy and focused.

I made a pack to her that if I started feeling anxiety with the husband that I would reach out immediately so not to internalize anything...

Anyhoo.. Give me your thoughts on GABA .... Everyone else feel free to chime in...
Ne- thanks for being here for me.... It matters a whole bunch... I'm super lucky to have all of you.

What are you going to do today?

Meh. Yesterday I was... in Target? I dunno, I worked in the morning a little and then had an overpowering need to f**k off for the rest of the day. Drove by a couple apartments I'd seen online, picked up a buddy of mine and went to look for a roll-up pencil case - don't ask, I decided I need, desperately, immediately, an old-timey pencil case made of canvas that rolls up and has a little strap to wrap around and tie it up. So wandered around an art supply store to no avail. Then he needed to go to Target, then we had Korean BBQ for dinner. Then I came home and played Xbox for probably five or six hours. Talk about trying to escape.

Today I worked and then did nothing. Looked at a lot of random internet. Not even porn, just... stuff that I don't want to buy and don't need. Stayed in the dark. Did dishes and laundry and took the trash out. Watched a hockey game, called my GF. And that's it. Gonna do it all over again tomorrow, I guess. Need to vacuum, desperately.
