I decided to post here and let everyone know what has happened to me! I have been here on this site for a LONG time. I have tried Topa, and Antabuse and then tried Naltrexone. I started it nearly a year ago - and finally it has worked for me ! It has not been long but I can tell that it has finally worked ! I have NO cravings at all - just do not want alcohol. I can hardly believe it - it just seems totally surreal to me right now. I did actually try a Guinness (as those of you who know me know that Guinness is my drink) last Sunday - and ended up pouring it out - I truly did not want it ! But what is so sweet with nal is that should I want a drink - like Christmas day we usually have Bucks Fizz (Mimosa's) and if I want to, even though I do not drink now (unbelievable), I can have some then, if I take my Nal an hour before !
I have had 11 AF days - apart from trying the Guinness a few days ago - which might not seem much to some of you, but I have not had this much AF time since I was on Topa - and the lovely thing is that it has been so easy - I just DO NOT WANT a drink!
A lot of folk try Naltrexone and TSM but give up - I was determined and stuck with it. I always took my Nal at least an hour before drinking and finally I am there .... I want to sing it from the rooftops, but will have to be content with posting it here.
Hugs to all, Sun xxHow simple it is to see that we can only be happy now and there will never be a time when it is not now....

That's great Sun especially as it's giving you such a positive outlook. It's great when being sober is not regarded as a death sentence. You wanted to find a way out from AL abuse and it looks like you have found a way that works for you
Have a merry christmas but don't forget to take the Nal!

Thanks Treetops - and trust me - I NEVER forget to take the Nal. I might not have anything Christmas day but I know my daughter and hubs would like me to..... even if it is just one ! It still seems so weird !!!

I've watched Sunshine's journey and all I can say is that she gave it her all, even when she felt it wasn't working, she kept on with it and will now reap the rewards.
Big congratulations :sohappy::welldone::thumbsup::congratulatory:I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.
Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years
AF date 22/07/13

Congratulations! That is so good to hear. I too was taking Naltrexone, but went off it. I am back on as of yesterday. I am a binge drinker and have been drinking way too much in the last month. For me, Nal definitely makes a huge difference. I took one last night, had three drinks and stopped. That is the first time in a long time that I have actually wanted to stop at three. Today, the thought of alcohol makes me sick. So, instead of binging again, I am able to stop. That is what I notice most when I take it - I drink less and don't want to continue the cycle the next day. I am planning on abstaining in January so I won't need to take the Nal. I need to reset my system and get a fresh start. I plan on keeping with the Nal this time and hopefully will have the success you have! I am lucky in that I am not physically addicted, but I know enough to see that I could end up that way. I am definitely psychologically addicted and will use Nal to get through the holidays. I would love to get to the point where I can take it or leave it.

Hi SunShine -I simply wanted to make a post and congratulate you on your new found freedom. Your post is one of hope and promise for the the many that still struggle with addiction every day. Furthermore, you only add to the fact that there is more than one medication available to help a person find their own freedom from alcohol.
SunShine -regarding your avatar; reminds me of the song "Return To Pooh Corner". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO8vly4PiKQ
(This song can be relative to those who suffer from AUD or other).
Thank you for your post.
