TimberTim asked a reasonable question regarding naltrexone type drugs. I answered him with what I know regarding these meds.

"Otter" apparently has some sort of misguided agenda regarding anything to do with TSM, and his posts are outright ridiculous.

My thoughts were in the spirit of explaining an effective medication. It's very clear that unless the Baclofen flag is saluted and worshipped here, any heretical notions that ANYTHING else has value are discarded and ridiculed.

    Wow !

HI Summerglow -Please realize and understand that we are very fortunate to have someone like Palladium on our site expressing their opinions and thoughts. He/She is forthright in their advice/comments and you are well advised to read/hear what they have to say. And then re-read again. And I do not know Palladium (he/she) in any personal/formal way. I only know that what they post seems to always be factual-real information -when they post.

Every word of what I just read is spot on -in my experience and understanding.

I'd forgotten about a visual experience I had on baclofen until I read Pallidium's post. I had what I learned later was a visual migraine without pain. My vision was blurred and as the day went on I saw double. I thought I'd had a mini stroke and went to the ER where they found nothing on the CAT scan. I can't say what caused it. I'm still on baclofen (almost 2 years now) and it's not happened again.

          This isn't new.

I have not come across anyone being paid to post on TSM forums, I certainly am not paid I simply report my experiences. Yes TSM removed the cravings for me - i do still desire the escape alcohol provided and so I've done a lot of psychological work, still doing it and not afraid to do so. I am also learning neuroscience is linked into our behaviours and desires.

Yes I am an anxious person, I'm also an avoidant person too - and often highly stressed. Baclofen made me feel much worse and I couldn't function using it, so I decided to go the hard way around.

I don't really give a stuff but if people are being paid on the TSM forum how come I've never been offered a penny?????It's also not dead, people post on a daily basis and at the moment it's chugging away nicely.

Anyway I am not going to deny people a variety of options, not everyone wants or can take baclofen. Some of those people (who by the way were chronic daily drinkings, through the day) have been able to cut down and quit by using TSM, to the point where their lives have been turned around.

I am not going to deny anyone the chance of that, whatever their choice.

Update, I had my eyes tested again since lowering the dose, and it has improved.......so I might well just stop the BAC, have my eyes re tested, and retry NAL and TSM......What a palaver, why can't I just not drink??

The insomnia is awful and almost worse than a hangover.....

Healthcare services are not equipped to support patients with sight loss who have problems with drink or alcohol, according to a new study by charity Thomas Pocklington Trust.

Alcohol, other Drugs and Sight Loss: A Scoping Study was released this week, combining the personal stories of people with sight loss with existing research relating to alcohol and drugs.

‘The individual practitioners we spoke to do their best but they are operating with systems and structures that do not routinely consider the ‘other’ issue as part of their remit,’ said Professor Sarah Galvani, from Manchester Metropolitan University who led the research. ‘Until this changes, the services people receive are likely to be at best, lacking and at worst failing them completely.’

Many healthcare professionals reported that working with sight loss and substance use was challenging and outside their remit, researchers found.

The study also found that people with sight loss tend to drink less than their sighted peers and that the number of people seeking support for combined sight loss and substance use was small.
