    week 3 150 topa

I seem to be getting nowhere. Went through a month of vitamins and kudzu...no help. Decided to try Topamax Thought I was doing well the first week at 50. No alcohol for the first four days Starting the weekend it was on and off. Moved up to a week at 100. Now the middle of 150. Am continuing my vodka cocktails each evening...have had no noticeable side effects from the drug but no reduction in disregarding cocktail hour either, although I am happier not the panic at 5.00..and plan to make more plans to fill in that time spot. I do feel disappointed, though at the lack of diminished craving...not sure if I should continue upping the dosage or try something else. advice from the more experienced is always welcome.

    week 3 150 topa

TOPA works differently for different people...it sounds like it is working a bit for you but not as well as you'd like...for me it worked right away...I HAVE read of some folks one the board here who got up to 175mg before it really kicked in...I'm no doctor or anything but I'd say keep it up...give it a shot...it works for a lot of people...it has REALLY worked for me while nothing else has...I've been 41 days AF now....I had not really gone that long for 10+ years....I would say keep going and give it longer...If you are at 150 and just on week three it seems like you moved up a bit quickly anyway....that is just me and my uneducated advice......

Have you thought about trying a different drink at 5pm, just to change the habit. Keep trying with the topa but try and change something to, never know it might help.

RJ mentions taking a few weeks AF if you're selecting moderation. It's recommended 30 days & then to moderate.

I think that would be your next step. Minus the daily drinks & let the Topa take it's full effect.

topa works better at a lower dose if you are not drinking or if oyu are truly moderating. If you continue to drink as normal, form what i have read and from what my doctor has told me, it won't be anywhere near as effective.....plus its not a magic pill of course it won't make you completely not want it by itself, you will still want to drink out of habit, but it should help make it easier at the right dose ( which doesn't have to be very high)
It's not that some people have willpower and some don't. It's that some people are ready to change and others are not.

I am now up to 200 mgs of Topomax. My craving are a less, still have some, but it sure has not helped with the lack of wanting food! Does it take a while to kick in? I'm a female 5'5" 150 lbs, so that is a healthy dose I believe. I don't know why I have such a high tolerance.

I have not drank now for 16 days!

I'd go up a notch, like 25 mgs, and as the others say, change a few of my habits. Frankly, for some of us moderation is NOT an option. So you gotta be honest to yourself regarding that.

It does seem like you dosed up very quickly and are still drinking quite a lot. I would also suggest trying to go 30 days AF while dosing up slowly (only 25 mg per week) and then trying slight moderation. Remember, topa is not a magic bullet. You are lucky you are not having side effects, though. That is very good.
Rest in Peace, Bear. We miss you.
