    Baclofen, Topamax, Klonopin Oh My...

I've been on high doses of baclofen (200-300) for five years now. About a year or more ago it stopped working. I started struggling to find a way. I started to get whichever benzos I could find that that seemed to help and I told my doc about it. In February of this year he prescribed me 1mg Klonopin 2x a day. Still something didn't feel right unless I was taking the shorter acting *lams.

He had prescribed me Topamax last October but I stopped taking due to the side effects like sleep walking, lethargy, etc... I still had almost a whole bottle of that left so my last resort was to try to start to take that again after a lot of research. I took it up fast. 50 mg every three or four days or so. No sleep walking but forgetfulness, loss of words and kind of sleepy but with the Klonopin I've always noticed it doesn't make me want to take a nap during the day for some reason.

Today I've taken 200 mg of the Topamax (100 more in an hour), 200 mg of the baclofen and 2 mg Klonopin plus my 40 mg of Prozac that I've been on since my divorce almost 10 years ago. I feel like I first did when I first hit my switch on the baclofen. Energetic, no cravings whatsoever (even though there is beer in the house). It seemed to have hit as soon as I hit the 300 with the Topa. Only problems I notice now is loss of appetite until later in the evening and visual disturbances ("tracers") if I wake up in the middle of the night which I find kind of hilarious.

I feel like I may not need the baclofen any longer but have gone through cold turkey withdrawals twice from high doses (10 day hospital stays in 4 point restraints or so I was told) and am scared as hell of dropping down too much of that hellish stuff even though I just dropped 100mg today. I go see my doctor tomorrow but I was wondering if any of you guys know what in the hell is going on? I feel great. No memory problems anymore, not too many losing track of what I was talking about (I can't believe I typed this whole thing out), no cravings. WTF? Thanks a lot, guys. Been lurking for years. You're the reason my doctor prescribed me high doses of baclofen in the first place.

It's not really clear whats been going on based on your post, when you say baclofen stopped working, what happened? did you get cravings again? what makes you say it didnt work? whats the deal with multiple cold turkey withdrawals from baclofen? why didn't you tritate off slowly? dropping down by 100mg is way too fast...

so the rest of your post mentions using topamax, ssris, baclofen and benzos in a cocktail and you feel like you dont have cravings yet dont think you need baclofen anymore... this is a bit rambly and confusing...

      Hiya, LDaught.

It seems like the combination is working! Yay!

Unlike many others around here, I don't think benzos are evil. I think they can be very helpful, if used appropriately. I understand they are difficult to discontinue, and have some other risks (I don't want to minimize the risk of abuse/addiction) but they really do make a huge difference for many people.

As for the combinations and going down on baclofen...I don't know that I would change things around if I was in a good place and not craving or having other side effects. If you want to go down, slow and steady is what has worked for me. And not changing other things around at the same time is probably a good idea.

      Glad you're doing well.
