    Am I paranoid?

I read this and my jaw dropped.

SF says in his MWO farewell announcement, "I believe that it is not only important to try and help those who now suffer from alcoholism, but to also try to continue to help all the future generations who may end up with AUD.

When one has suffered with this disease to the point of near death, such as I have, and survived, one might begin to think about how this genetically passed disease might cause the same type of pain and destruction to his/her children, grandchildren, and so on. Thus, I remain passionate about passing along new information that I come across to others; I just do not think that the medication section of this forum is the place to do so as a result of baclofen being the primary point of discussion and passion for others."

For anyone who thinks this guy is sincere, he practically hunted me down to sing my praises and meet my wife who had recovered using baclofen. To me this is someone who is devious and deceptive.

I have to ask myself these questions. When he was heaping praise on me over Skype a year or so ago, was he of this view? If he was then he was playing me for a fool Even as he was doing it I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable. Why is he so down on baclofen? He can read here that people on this forum have used it and that it works. Is he saying we are all liars? What is his opinion of Ameisen's experience, the book he wrote, the evidence of the doctors who use this for alcoholic patients? Does he consider this to be some gigantic fraud being perpetrated on a world which has at its fingertips all sorts of other medications which work?

How many of his favourite medications have developed a following here because they actually work, now, in the present, and not in some hoped for future which never arrives? Nal, Campral, benzos, Topa, Gapapentin... this list goes on of "not so great" drugs which kinda work for some people.

Read the book, read what Ameisen actually says about these drugs and the indepth explanations he gives as to why scientifically baclofen is different from any other drug (pretty much).

    What is this guy on?

And, no, I don't think I am paranoid, but I do think this guy has some kind of agenda. I still haven't figured out what it is.

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

Of the possibilities mentioned, the most likely would be funding by a formal or otherwise trade association amongst 12-step clinics. They have a lot to lose.

Beckit Renkeiser might appreciate some publicity. Then again it might be B-R's competitors.

Next thing, they will be calling me paranoid.

We'll never know. Maybe he is just a man possessed.

I don't understand it though. He goes on and on about how he has to post about medical research because he supposedly thinks that this will lead to some drug being found which "cures" alcoholism. But why has he got a problem acknowledging that many people are being "cured" with baclofen, and that the discovery has already happened. So, if another drug is discovered that has a different mechanism and it also is used and works, is he going to get his back up about that and start telling people who use it that it isn't a cure and we should all concentrate on medical research towards a cure.

The mind boggles. It only makes sense to me in the context of someone who set out to attack and neutralize this "baclofen" community. As I recall he went to ARC for a two week detox, and met Terry Bruce, the owner. He then gets on to the Meds thread and starts to get me to disclose my identity. Why would I do this when he is anti-baclofen (what a concept, being against a molecule)? I gave him my email, Skype, introduced him to my wife, talked him through some legal issues. If I had known what he was like, with my involvement in baclofen, why would I do that?? Because he deceived me. He has never said that he altered his view about baclofen after coming to the forum. If anything, finding the forum and finding people who had success with baclofen should have confirmed his view of it, that it was a remarkably successful drug treatment.

So, he targets me and other key baclofen supporters and users, and then, for no apparent reason, turns on us, decides baclofen is not what it is cracked up to be, even though he went to ARC and specifically asked them for baclofen, and now feels he has some role to play in steering people towards other drugs which so far have not had any where near the success of baclofen.

It is bonkers. It just doesn't make sense.

        Hey Otter

        Just Knobert here.

I was first in mwo in early 2013. I read a lot of your posts. Now I'm back after a sabbatical.

I've been reading up on the posts and what's been going on and trust me:

        You are not paranoid

Persistent, yes, which is a good thing

        But definitely not paranoid

        Knob
