    Olivier Ameisen

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"

Wow, that's powerful stuff! And baclofen mentioned as a potential cure which the US has chosen not to fund trials on! And those stats on how the alcohol industry profit from alcoholics!

Posted on 30th November though & only 158 viewings. I wish it could be somehow brought into prominence, but I have no idea how this can be done.

      This is amazing movement forward.

As to how to get it more prominent I would suggest you promote it in a completely different way.

It truly deserves to be seen and appreciated...not only for the references to baclofen, naltrexone etc ..but also because AUD is, at last, being recognised as a society destroying problem.

I would suggest a thread in general with a title that shows this for what it is......

AMERICA WAKES UP TO IT'S ADDICTION CRISIS

      Was one...

AT LAST, A POLITICIAN WHO SEES THE MESS OF ADDICTION

      or something like...

kuya, I didn't mean make it more prominent on this forum - it's preaching to the converted here anyway! I meant making the general public in the USA more aware of it. Certain things "go viral" on You Tube, but it doesn't look as though this is going to be one of them unfortunately, or not without help. Maybe emailing the link to prominent people in the US? Not that I know who these should be. Or posting it on other websites? Again I'm at a loss.

            Sorry I misunderstood.

If you want to increase the effect of this message then you have to disseminate it to a plethora of groups that currently only feel obliquely impinged by the 'alcoholic' message. You have to keep knocking until someone with some real clout decides to listen.

Here is where I would start.

            Domestic violence support groups
            Victims of drink driving deaths
Brain damage trusts for newborn children of drug addicts
AA groups locally and nationally ( Plus al anon. Etc...don't assume these guys saw this...you would think so but often it gets filtered out.)
            SMART recovery
Family support agencies (of all sorts)
            Probation services

If you want to make a difference then be prepared for most of these groups to be indifferent, but even ONE positive interest means another foot in another door

A great message. Posted it on SoberRecovery. : ) Let's hope they don't delete it like they did my attempt to start a thread about baclofen.

Yes I know. Been on SR off and on for a while and got into trouble for trying to start discussions about baclofen a couple of times - including a threat of being banned! Apparently the moderation has become even worse since they started taking on advertising. Vested interests?

Anyway the video is still there...

Well they deleted the post at SoberRecovery. I sent a very angry message to the admin who informed me. I won't be using that forum again. I find it hard to believe that a message from a highly respected individual such as herself is actually censored because it 'appears to promote baclofen'. I am resisting swearing angrily!

I just find it amazing that a website supposedly dedicated to helping alcoholics should censor posts which discuss medication. This just means that the tiny proportion of alcoholics who receive active treatment remains a tiny proportion. It must be due to a mentality which supports the idea that alcoholism is a moral or spiritual failure, & that makes ME very angry as well!
