NPR Radiolab - The Fix podcast on medications for addiction - 12/18/15

    The Fix - Radiolab

Interestingly enough, Amy O'leary (who got the ball rolling in this story) contacted me here at MWO on 11/18/14 and again on 8/30/15:

I had a friend that used Baclofen successfully and I interviewed Dr. Amiesen twice before he died to learn about his experiences.

We traded a few PMs and set up a time to talk via phone, but she didn't answer when I called.

Terry -this is really good news to read. Are you going to try and call or write to her again? (TK -I thought I just where u said Amy is a newspaper reporter from New York. What a great honor it must be to have someone like Amy wanting to speak with you about medications for alcoholism. One thing is for certain, you know a lot more about Baclofen than most any other person that I have spoken to or read.

It will simply just continue to be a matter of time and money, but scientists are rapidly closing in on resolving the addiction problem. I personally still believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that genetics play the biggest role in addiction. No, this does not mean that your mom or dad were addicted to some substance -may have been tee-totalers, but our brains are genetically programmed to seek out relief of some form or method to relieve themselves of the pain at hand. I am not a scientist or well trained in writing skills, but I do intuitively know that none of us choose to be in pain from addiction that only ends up causing us more pain.

This truly is one of the most up to date video conversations that I have seen/heard relative to addiction. (Genetics-play one of the biggest roles, dopamine, vivid memories lead to relapse, etc.). These are top scientists/others in the world discussing the very thing that many of us suffer from and are discussing the topic in terms of science -not morality.

When coming back here to mention this podcast, I had an impulse to make a single post with a link and then close the thread before you, Spirit, could add anything inane. I am kicking myself now for not doing that. It looks like you missed the RADIOLAB PODCAST completely and are commenting on a youtube video that is attached merely as additional info for one of the guests on the podcast.
