    Tapering off BAC

    Lots of topics started.

I only ever got to 25mg 3X day.

Believe it really helped with cravings for the 5 years I took it.

I did not take it to drink moderately.

I have been alcohol free (sober) for 6 years now.

Decided to try to go off.

Where I'm at in my efforts.

    25mg/12.5mg/25mg for 2 weeks.

    12.5mg/12.5mg/25mg for 2 weeks.

    12.5mg/12.5mg/12.5mg for 2 weeks.

    Now 12.5mg/6.25mg/12.5mg.

    Slow and steady.

Everything seems to be going well. Have a few panick attacks every once in a while before bed. However, alcohol cravings are in check.

But I think this is the slow way that it is best to go off Baclofen.

    Thought I'd share.

Hi Bunge, great to hear how successful your quit has been! Most of the med's members have moved to the new meds site The End Of My Addiction | Forum Discussing Alcohol Medication I'm sure they'd also like to hear about your success with Baclofen!
Quitting and staying quit isn't easy, its learning a whole new way of thinking. It's accepting a new way of life, and not just accepting it, embracing it...
Worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Just get through today. Tomorrow will look after itself when it becomes today, because today is all we have to think about.
Friendship is not about how many friends you have or who you've known the longest. It's about who walked into your life, said "I'm here for you", and proved it.

        Thx NoraC.

        Bit nerve wracking.

Hear reports of difficulties going off.

Also, 6 years hard work in recovery. Never really know how much of the success is attributable to the Bac.

It is what it is though.

Just felt time to go off as I've always wondered if the meds also suppress happiness in everyday things a bit too.

        :thanks:

          Bunge,

You sound good. I also was on baclofen and tapered off. I was at 80 mgs and didn't like the SEs when I ran in heat. I do notice that I am not as relaxed and calm as when I was on baclofen.

I agree 100% about putting in the hard work. I think the bac gave me "a pause" so that I could start to examine, tune and build a better life.

Thanks. That's a great way to express my feelings on the matter. I'm stealing it!

Does anyone still take Kudzu? Found it helps keep the mood level.

I tried it before the poop hit the fan and my drinking got me into rehab. Considering my state at the time it would be unfair to try to assess its effectiveness.

Perhaps would be good to try now? Maybe I'll revisit.:happy2:

                        Baclofen

I, too take this. When it was first prescribed I had some reservations about it so the Psychiatrist who prescribed it put me on 5ml doses to start....the good thing about this is that 5mg is not available in tablet form so I had the liquid medicine.

It continues to be prescribed to me but I can now take it as and when necessary...because it is a liquid it has an almost immediate effect supressing the desire for a drink. Some days I take none at all, some days I may have 2 or 3 doses... It is much more convenient like this for having an "immediate" effect
