    Long time, no see

    Hi
I've been taking baclofen for about a decade I guess. Hasn't completely stopped me drinking but pretty much controls me from going over the top and making trouble.
Wonder who else has been taking this for a long time.

ignominious/ignominous, is that you? Wow, it has been a long time - welcome back! I'm still here, still on baclofen (7+ years on high dose). Still sober, but not abstinent. Unfortunately there has been a lot of tumult here in the past couple of years, and even though the powers that be seem to have dispatched the offending members, it's been uncharacteristically quiet in these parts for too long. It's good to see that you are still kicking, and that the Baclofen has kept you out of trouble. Be sure check out the new, med-centric addiction website that some of us MWO-ers had a hand in creating: The End Of My Addiction | Forum Discussing Alcohol Medication

        Re: Long time, no see

Hi guys. Been some time. Yes it's me. Yeah, sure does seem a bit quiet here but also over at the other site. I think the furious optimism about baclofen that existed way back when has probably cooled a tad.

Anyway success for me, I've touched base with a couple of faces! How are you both doing? Any long term effects or not?

I'm now on 40mg which doesn't quite stop me from wanting to get drunk but it doesn't have to be daily and I don't get comatose often/ever. Usually have a few jars with some friends or by myself in the evening - just enough to get a buzz but don't feel compelled to carry on drinking. Unfortunately anything more than 40mg and I just can't work. I trust every one too much and believe in the goodness of the world and everything will turn out all right in the end! I'm a dealer in precious stones and frankly there are quite a few unscrupulous characters in the trade, exempting myself of course - caveat emptor!

Good to see you, hope you're doing well but let me know what downsides you've experienced if any.

          Olivier Ameisen

In addiction, suppression of symptoms should suppress the disease altogether since addiction is, as he observed, a "symptom-driven disease". Of all "anticraving medications used in animals, only one - baclofen - has the unique property of suppressing the motivation to consume cocaine, heroin, alcohol, nicotine and d-amphetamine"
