"As a practicing physician , I can say that all of the treatment centers that I am affiliated with use naltrexone , acamprosate , suboxone, antidepressants, psychotherapy, and every possible therapy which will heal this dreaded disease.
Our treatment centers often include the twelve steps as a valid method to give the patients an emotional and spiritual home so they won't relapse. AA does not compete for health dollars and does not preach against helpful therapies. AA is really a stand alone entity which doctors may use as they see fit."
