Can anyone enlighten me as to whether Campral or Naltextrone is the better to take and more effective.

I've been on both. I can only tell you about my experience, but I know that others have had different.

I tried Naltrexone first and it was great, I went about 6 weeks without a drink, and no real cravings. Then I had a few drinks one night and the stuff never worked again.

A few months later I went on to Campral, and right from day one I had no cravings. I took it for 5 months and stayed sober for 5 months. Then I got over confident and stopped taking it and a few weeks later decided I could handle moderation. Two weeks later I was back drinking like I was before. I went back on it 4 months later and that was 9 months ago. I am now 9 months sober and off the campral.

The side effects for both were minimal. In fact I don't remember there being any for Naltrexone. I had what I affectionatly termed a "runny bum" and wind on the Campral, but I figured it was worth it.

In short, my experience is that Campral is a better, more effective drug.
