Those With Bi-Polar Disorder
Dolly, you are so right. Many people become alcoholics due to self medicating, for both physical pain and emotional pain. We know that drinking while on medication is dangerous, but then again most of us know that the affects of alcoholism is dangerous and destructive.
Boy! I am so happy that so many have found their way here and the tools to rid ourselves of this!A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes~Cinderella

Dolly, Kate-I agree. Don't care for the comment either. Any alcoholic is a "ticking time bomb" if you think about it-taking meds w/alcohol or not. Damn-while under the influence I was in danger making dinner, using knives and not cutting an appendage off, walking up the stairs and not tripping and falling and breaking my neck, trying to fix things that could blow up in my face, driving, cutting the grass, never mind getting mad under the influence etc.
We all drink/drank for varies reasons. That's why we are here-to not feel alone in our struggles, without prejudice.:flower: Change a life; make someone feel important. ................. ........................ ..................... ........................ ................. ....... sigpic

we are here to give and recieve support not give each outer grief. I am feeling like crap lost track of tuesday around two oclockbeen off drink for a while now no memorry whatsoever, first thing came to me at 10 pm foung myself using a grinder on the front porch and no saftey gear, no recollection lost around 8 hrs found lots of beer cans but dont remember even the first, I dont understand what happened, havent been back drinking. gyco you have to ask yourself why you are here and what it was that lit your fuse before judging others. bipolar and depression isnt like a cold that can be diagnosed with obvious symptoms, some people will self medicate for years to treat themself before seeking treatment or not. we all have our demons some good some bad. we all deal differently, have to go before I say something I regret"From now on, walking is my beer and feeling good is my hangover" .....Homer Simpson

If it is REALLY Bipolar Disorder, then you need a mood stabilizer. Sometimes an antidepressant can be used along with the mood stabilizer (NOT by itself). You should be cautious, however: Bipolar Disorder is over-diagnosed these days, it has become one of the "fashionable" diagnoses, both among patients (who self-diagnose, and not always accurately) and among psychiatrists.

yep agree with that totally, sometimes the medication you take can make things worse as well, one thing may work wonders for some but have massive negative effects for others, I got myself finally refered to a doc that specialises in mental health through beyond blue or the black dog institute for us aussies, take this for an example you wouldnd get a plumber to fix your car when it is running rough, both in the repair industry but there are so many things that need SPECIALIZED professionals to get the best result, I have been on effexor and its shitty side effects for over 2 yrs due to severe manic depressioin or as so my gp thought, now after seeking appropriate advice am weening off it and being treated for anxietyand feeling heaps better btw, My brother was given a change in medication 6 yrs ago by a gp after having no episodes in two yrs and just wanted clearer sinuses and was found dead two weeks later after a manic episode that his previous medication had under control. mental illness is not something that should be taken lightly, what is worse schizophrenia like my bro had or depression like my mate bomber had who had shut himself in his garage with his dog witht the car running>? same result, poor treatment. I feel releieved that I have had my issues sorted by someone who specialises in what we need, PROPER advice, I am not canning gps, they do a great job, but just need to realise when they are out of their league. A mechanic who has worked on 1970's toyotas all his life is not going to have a clue when he opens the bonnet of a new land cruiser> please if you dont feel like your treatment is working or is making you feel worse, get that second opinion that is maxs rant for the day luvyazall"From now on, walking is my beer and feeling good is my hangover" .....Homer Simpson
