Finding it incredibly hard to quit...

    Hi Danos!
Wow rockclimbing must be so fantastic!
What I wanted to say was that I know how vulnerable I am when hungry... after a rockclimb you must be so hungry! Try to reward yourself with a lovely meal instead! For me the craving gets much less when I've eaten, good to have you here and keep in touch!

Take My yoke upon you and learn from me for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yolk is easy and My burden is light

Finding it incredibly hard to quit...

      Hi Danos,

I totally relate to so many things you said. Like you, I love doing physical things, for me, it is going to the gym, and working out hard! I love to eat healthy foods, and then, I just undo all the good things I do for my body and spirit, and tear it all down by drinking. Go figure huh. I made up a motto for my life one time... "Build up to Tear Down". Relate?

I guess its just the way of our disease. It doesnt have to make sense, and maybe not trying to figure it all out, and just accept our flaws is a good way to start. Your not a bad person, you are just wired differently from others, but as you know, our problems could possibly kill us.

Keep posting and doing some soul searching, it certainly does help to be honest here. We are all flawed.

        Danos:

I read many of your posts and I hope you come back and don't feel bad. I honestly drink alone because I am lonely even though I have a life. I don't like the bars, although when I was 25 that was a whole other story. My point is, you made it a few days, you "rewarded" yourself. Don't kick yourself, just rest on that ledge for a bit and head back up the mountain. It isn't "wrong" or "bad", it is just how it is for you. Accepting our faults and failings isn't giving your self permission. Just do what you can, at 25 you are much further in reaching out than I was even though I knew I had a problem. Pat yourself on the back for making those small steps and start in again.

Finding it incredibly hard to quit...

Thanks again for all your encouragement, it really means a lot to me.

Unfortunately Ive been a lot worse lately, I had a climbing trip planned next year in April which I had been training hard for, but the situation changed and its now been cancelled. Since then Ive been drinking daily, and heavily, in a stupid 'who cares' mindset that I get into.

Then the other day I received a nice message out of the blue from someone on this board which snapped me out of it, so Im gonna try again. Probably the hardest part of the year to attempt quitting drinking, but then Ive been known to be up for a challenge. I smoked heavily for years and managed to quit cold turkey on the first attempt, I would never have thought something would be so hard.

Anyway, thanks again for your support.
          Dan.

              Danos,

Looks like you've decided to climb another mountain, huh? Reach the top AND get down the other side. Alcolhol free, and free. You can do it. If you did it with smokes, you can do it with that damn AL.

              Take care,
