That's great to hear Songbird! Sounds like you have suffered a lot.

I know what you mean about not getting into AA meetings, though I found that the people themselves can be great. Maybe there is another type of group support you could get? One organization that has group meetings is called Women For Sobriety. If you google them you can email them and ask if there is a group in your area.

You could also ask the rehab if they know of alternative groups to AA. I think other options are springing up in some areas.

SMART recovery also has group meetings.

Good luck and you can always post on here of course with your progress.

      hello songbird
Glad to know you are ok and on day 10! That is a great kickstart to the program.
Keep posting especially if you are struggling. Have you any kudzu or L-glut to help you with cravings or anything like that?

Songbird, you're doing the right thing. The detox will be a new start...hopefully the staff there can help you with the next step. In the Midwest US, the counties ( Family Services, Social Services) offer help in getting CD evaluation and treatment...they can help if people don't have insurance.

        Hope and committment are everthing.......Gaia

Welcome back, Songbird! 10 days is incredible! I was so worried about you, thanks so much for checking back in! :l

Nancy has some great suggestions for alternatives and you might want to try AA just at the beginning. My brother tried it, didn't like it then tried NA and found that to be a bit more to his liking. He's now been going for over 4 years, successfully. He says he takes what he needs from the meetings and ignores what he doesn't believe in.

I'm so proud of you :goodjob:

              Dear Songbird,

Please go to detox when they have an opening for you! I found that my thinking was so skewed when I was heavily into AL. And yours is compounded! Everything seemed insurmountable. As my system cleared, my thinking began to clear as well. I am not down-playing the severity of what lies ahead. You will need to be stronger than can be imagined. But even after only 5 days- you will probably begin to see things in a slightly better light. One thing at a time. Do you have any family that you can go to? I hope you do. Stay by the phone, and pack your bag! Sending love and support! Best

SB, I'm not sure what is available where you are,but my brother has been to a number of 30 day up to yearly rehabs up and down the west coast and he was unable to pay. Also, the government has clinical trials for alcohol and drug addiction: I think it's clinicaltrials.gov Anything is worth trying at this point. Keep posting. Keek

WIP! OPPS! Songbird sounded so distraught, I read a few posts and skipped to the end to offer support when I had but a minute! My mistake songbird, but am glad you are doing what you need to do. I am 191 days AF today. I am 10 years older than you, so drank that much longer. It took me quite a while to feel better, but when it finally kicks in - it is sooooo worth it. Everything is soooo much better. Keep it up!

                      Songbird,

I think you are courageous to go to detox for 3-5 days. I haven't been sober for more than two days in ten years. I think it will give you a leg up. I know you feel guilt and shame. You are here--trying to help yourself, you should feel proud and confident in yourself for doing "something" to help yourself. I know you are going to be okay and find your way out.
