Liver Pain?
universal;510489 wrote: I have also experienced an "ache" in that area. I wouldn't necessarily call it pain but more of a dull ache. I too have tried the massage etc to see if I could feel if it is enlarged. Obviously with all the responses I guess we know what the answer is, even if we are not doctors. Fatty liver is the obvious culprit but I think maybe we should all get in for some blood work. If this doesn't scare us I'm not sure what will.......

Liver Pain?
I appreciate all the helpful responses. I think I'm just going to keep remaining AF and see if the pain subsides. After 5 days AF it is already getting better, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was just the product of overdoing it more than usual. I must have consumed over 60 drinks in the week leading up to New Year's, which would explain it.

Liver Pain?
I have also noticed pain in my right side after several days of drinking. At its worst, I suffered four days of pain to the point of laying down with a heating pad. I know it is my liver and that I have to make serious choices in 2009. Keep drinking and ruin my health or become AF and choose health and wholeness. Thanks for starting this thread as I thought I was the only one who had this type of symptom after drinking.Redhibiscus

Liver Pain?
I am really glad someone brought this up. I have been concerned too. I have pain in my lower right side and back pain. I go to the doctor tomorrow so I will see what comes of that. I am having a check up so they will do blood test. I have really cut down in the past couple of weeks and have had several days AF, but I would like to stop altogether especially knowing that a guy I know recently died of cirrohsis in November. It was really sad.

Oh boy, I sure know how what you're going through...I can't tell you how many google searches I did trying to find answers to this question, when I knew deep down what it was. I was killing myself drinking. My story is much like cyclefan's. I wasn't willing to admit to the doctor that the fatty liver was from drinking, I blamed it on fluctuating weight from pregnancies (yeah, as if I was fooling him!). Even though that scare couldn't make me quit (it took an even bigger scare than that, unfortunately), I was able to improve things slightly with flax seed, fish oil, lycopene and a liver flush kit from the vitamin store. The numbers got better and a spot disappeared. I am lucky enough now to say that my liver appears to have repaired itself - thanks hugely to the supps here, I'm sure, and going AF. All tests are now normal (six months sober).
Well, anyway, your body is flashing it's "Repair Engine" light, take heed. Best wishes to you. You, as much as anyone in the universe, deserve your love and respect. ~ Buddha

Liver Pain?
Tessie, that's enough to scare me straight!!!!.....but I know, the nature of the beast is that it makes us believe that it won't happen to us! But the truth is, it can and it will if we don't make a conscious decision to live better and be well.
My brother has hep-C and drinks like a fish, has all his life, he's 50. His abdomen is so enlarged, he looks pregnant! He knows his liver is killing him, but that only makes him drink more!!!!! :nutso:
Is that the definition of insanity??????
Yes, it is.
I'm not that crazy!!!! I"VE GOT MY DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT SCHEDULED!!!
OUTTA MY WAY!!!!!!:racer:

My father also looks pregnant and states that he knows it is due to an enlarged liver........and then proceeds to drink 2 bottles of wine. Makes me sad because I know he will die from cirrhosis - as we all know alcoholism is hereditary - I refuse to die that way. I'm only 34 so I have time to stop this insanity now.Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.

Yikes Det! I was trying to remember who said their liver area had a squishy sound.
universal, I am around your age and completely agree that alcoholism is hereditary and I refuse to die that way as well. My dad was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and gout a few years ago. He is an alcoholic. Drinks every night - many beers. He has now switched over to 'light' beer. Where is the logic in that?
Not to mention my mother who is an angry individual is really about to hit rock bottom with her drinking and pot smoking. She also has screaming high blood pressure and is on medication and will drink until drunk after work and smoke pot in the morning before she goes to work. She works in a hospital for petes sake! Where is the logic in that? No to mention her face has been breaking out in pimples and rashes the last couple of months. I honestly believe it is only a matter of time before my mother has a stroke and more than likely won't make it.
I am scared to death about dying because of AL. As Dete said, "no more poison for me thank you"

Liver Pain?
I'm so happy that I'm not the only one who googles looking for answers and constantly thinks about it. I just need to bite the bullet and get my ass to the doc with my tail between my legs.
I am about your age Universal and Acc 4 Me. I do not have any Family history but, like you, I am catching myself before its too late. I know I cant go back to my old ways.
Something happened to me at the end of the summer that made me wake up or maybe grow up. It is not something that I can put my finger on but my whole thought process has changed.
So far its been working but my friends don't think I'm fun anymore.
I just wish I could quit smoking too.Starting over again 09/06/11

Liver Pain?
Well I did got to the doctor yesterday and she already called me back with the blood work results and everything is perfectly normal except my cholesterol is a little high 197 over 78. I can honestly say though that it is probably because I have not over done it too much and because of my AF days that I have allowed. I am still striving to not think about it so much, excercise more and stop AL altogether. I still have some back pain but that comes from arthritis and I am sure AL aggravates it. My blood pressure, EKG and kidneys were fine too so I think I just got lucky. I am very thankful and plan to keep striving to do better though. I am not going to let this turn me around to my old ways. I think it is a good sign and I want to be thankful. I did drink something last night and it just did not taste good so hopefully I will get there soon.
All I can say is that I am Trying Tessie and still feel hopeful. Good luck to everyone else. But I think you would feel better if you do have some blood work. I did not hide the fact that I drink. I am going to eat better and try to lose a few pounds too It could easily turn into a nightmare if we do not take care of ourselves.
God Bless All and let's hang in there together.
