Long Term Rehab Anyone?
Hi Cindi, I have had a little experience with rehab, but I only went for a 30 day program. The people that I felt most hopeful for were the ones that after they left 30 days were moving into "safe houses", and I envied them their ability to be able to do that. Most of them were in their twenties, and did not have a spouse at home. For me all I wanted to do was go home and be with my husband and cats and home. Now look at me, my husband is divorcing me. My time could have been better spent. (Not crying over spilled milk.)
I did some research before I entered the facility I went to, but in retrospect, I realize the place I went to was not really very good, almost like people were "dropped off" and went thru detox, a few made it afterwards. The program itself was light, I thought of it as a learning experience, but most of the counselors were "recovering" themselves, not necessarily educated formally for the roles they were playing. This made for a weak rehab program in my eyes. However the center was highly recommended in California.
Just saying, do the best research you can prior to making the commitment.
I do however believe that long term attendance may very well be the best route for you as it will force you to make the commitment and hopefully unlearn the bad behaviors of the addiction.
I sincerely wish you the very best of luck and hope for you to find what will work for you to move forward to your own place of "recovery." YOU CAN DO IT!

Long Term Rehab Anyone?
I went through 2 rehabs. The first one was a 90 day program. Mine was for drugs. It helped for about 6 months and I went back to drugs. Then I went to a live in program for an entire year, and I don't EVER think about drugs anymore. Rehabs do work, especially if you want them to. There are a lot of people court ordered to go to rehab, who have no intention of recovering-just so you know. Im not sure of the one you're looking at, but they give you a lot of good tools and information. Both the rehabs I went to were strict.
I don't know if this helped. I thought that rehab was good. It's a whole different world, and it lets you focus completely on your alcohol program. It's a good choice.

Cindi,
I'm so sorry about your insurance. I hope that you will find your path to sobriety. Keep searching for the right combination of tools. I send support and will keep you in my prayers. :l:h:l"It wasn't all I wanted, but all I could stand!":bigwink: Alcohol free since April 8, 2008

Cindi,
Is there any way you can sugar coat it for your insurance? Is there a place that maybe calls itself a health resort or something that might have the rehab services you're looking for? I have a good friend who works in insurance who I can ask, if you would like (and whose father was an alcoholic, so she does have some understanding of these issues). Let me know, OK?

Cinders, does your company have a leave of absence policy? If so, perhaps you could utilize that instead of medical leave. It doesn't pay as well but it does hold your job and benefits in place.vegan zombies want your grains

Long Term Rehab Anyone?
Cindi,
I applaud your courage and wish you luck.
I don't have experience of rehab but wanted to chime in on the 'long term' part of the equation. I embarked on two personal processes in 2008, sobriety and bereavement. In each case, I found it took me 3-4 months just to get my head round the fact that things were not as they used to be. Last summer it was sometime after 3 months AF that the novelty of 'non-drinking' started to wear off to be replaced by a search for the building blocks of 'recovery', whatever that entails. Then that process was overtaken by the death of my dad, and the first 3 months spent in shock, autopilot, then exhaustion. It's now been 4 months, and I'm struck by how similar the trajectory is in that I've recently started to look forward, the 'now what' phase of adjustment and relearning to cope in altered circumstances. A bit more hopeful but still wobbly.
My point: 4 months feels like a very short period of time in which to make life altering changes. I'd go for 6 if you can.
Perhaps you can use another medical condition to get initial medical leave and then supplement that with personal leave or a leave of absence?
Be well :l

Long Term Rehab Anyone?
Hi Cindi,
Just wanted to add my support. I know I do not know you very well but I have always followed your posts since I first joined here last year and just wanted to say that I wish you the best with this. I hope it works out well for you and that you can sort out the insurance. I have never been near a rehab, never even spoke to my general doctor about my AL problem, just riding it out by myself, but personally I feel like I really could do with a rehab type of intervention..just realistically cannot get away from my current life to do it at this moment in time.
Wishing you all the best
xxThere will come a time when you believe everything is finished. That will be the beginning.
