    Third day...pain.

I have had this pain on and off for a year, seeing a liver specialist next week. I am guessing it's just the bodies way of saying enough is enough!

WHen you drink the liver gets inflamed and I takes 4-12 weeks to get back to doing it's normal job.
If you suddenly stop drinking the liver stops processing alcohol and processes the toxins that the body has accumulated (many of which can be a by product of alcohol) .
Many people feel pain in the liver area for 4-12 weeks after their last drink cos the liver is detoxing stored toxins. I learned this from a nurse who has worked in the liver disease dept of a hospital for 33 years.
So yes while I agree everyone who has these pains should get them checked if you have no other signs of liver problems on your body you probably have nothing serious to worry about and if you've quit things will take a turn for the better.

The danger here is that you start drinking again once the pain goes i guess

ya cant have LIVE without LIVer

I was having upper right-quadrant (below my ribcage) while I was drinking and shortly after detox- particularly after eating a large meal. Over the past few weeks (Im nearly 5 weeks AF) it has diminished considerably. My danger is pain is linked to my use- I have severe chronic shoulder pain, and would self medicate with alcohol to try to alleviate it. Of course, that wasnt the only reason for my use/abuse, but it factors in. My advice is to give it time, avoid drinking (duh), avoid any OTC pain meds processed in the liver like acetominophen, and consider a supplement like Milk Thistle. And of course, let your doc know what you're up to....

            Good luck!

              scubakitty

I have similar problems for days where as soon as I got up sitting on the bed I could not spot trying to throwup. If I can lay off the vodka and sick to wine it goes away. It's all part of this nasty addition whe're all discussing and hateing.:l
