Sausage here - I'm on day 87 AF and i've seen this coming for a few days - I just haven't felt motivated, I feel fed up (for no real reason - there isn't anything more difficult than usual going on in my life) for days, i've been having internal battles with myself to justify drinking, i'm scared i'll ruin it all now- I'm desperate for a glass of wine, and my husband will be drinking tonight. Help me someone:upset:

Hiya Sausage. You're spot on..You don't want to spoil things now. Did you know every time we resist the urge, neuron thingy's in our brain remeber this, and the process of repair/re-wiring continues, get's stronger, and our urges gradually get weaker. Can you get out and go for a run/walk, or swim?...something? Can you pull out your toolbox now?!!! Make a list, or re-read the list of why you want to be af. What the amazing benifit's are etc. If you have to go out in an al environment, well, firstly, cancel it!...or, have an exit plan. A good partner/friend will support you....

help - I really want a drink!
Hey Sausage....I know exactly what you are talking about! We had a little group of non-drinkers here, all going through our first year as non-drinkers together. Coming up on 90 Days, several of us were feeling exactly like you have described. It seemed the "Glow" of new sobriety had begun to wear off and we had all begun to have "drinking thoughts" again.....could we Mod now? Would just one hurt? Was it all worth it? etc. etc. etc. The conclusion that we all came to was that we had reached a new level of sobriety and that it was time to make our next set of life changes. Things that we would do to add back some excitement in our lives, but in a healthy way.....we made lists of things that we would enjoy doing in the evening.....some quite simple things....visit the local book store, library or coffee house. Go to a movie, visit with friends. Make your own list.....it seems that at about 90 days is when we realize how much of our time was spent drinking.....man! That was a lot of precious time!
I hope this helps!! Congrats on doing so well!!

Sausage,
I was in the same place right around 90 days. I was really looking for an excuse to drink. The thing is there are ups and downs in this process. I just gutted it out for a few days and AF became "easy" again. Kate is right about finding new stuff to get excited about.
I know there is a lot said around here about "tools" - I think the best tool that I have in my arsenal against AL is HONESTY. As long as I remain honest with myself about how impaired my life (and my children's lives by extension) was when I was drinking, I will continue to remain AF.
Best,Beck

Hot bath! OK, so you can't do that while watching YouTube, but a long bath and a book have got me through many an evening when I wanted to drink.
I agree about thinking of new AF activities, even stuff you can do at home if you can't get out, just to change your routine.
I can't imagine how difficult it is for people whose partners drink. Can you tell your husband you're having a hard time at the moment and ask him not to drink for a few days?sigpic
