    My 2 Sons

I have 2 sons (39 and 44) who are both alcoholics. The older one is on the hard stuff (vodka) and is farther down the road in his than the younger. He says he will always drink. (It's really got him by the yang yang) The younger son mostly drinks beer and is seeking help. He has lost his wife and new born just last week over alcohol. This same son will go for long periods of sobriety. And WANTS to be sober. Right now he is sober.
What I need to know is what would be best for him to start out. It's mainly restlessness, sleeplessness and craving. I'd appreciate any help we can get. I need answers ASAP so that I can order the suppliments.
    Thanks so much,
    Worried Mama

Welcome, Mama! I am sorry to hear that both your sons have this kind of problem. As to your second son... sounds as if you are trying to help him by (sort of) giving him the MWO-recommended supplements? I wonder if it would not be better if you sent him here, so he could take more ownership of his recovery, and figure out what will be most helpful for him? Have you suggested that to him? It does sound as if he is open to suggestions, perhaps? I do hope so...

I know what anquish this must be causing you. The supplements truly do help. They have definietly helped me. But, getting and staying sober takes full personal participation. The supplements and other "Tools", are definitely helpful, but they are not magic. I would encourage your son to seek alcohol counseling, come here and perhaps attend AA.
Best Wishes to you and your family,
        Kate

Thank you Work In Progress, Peacenik, and KateH1 for your responses. Yes, it would be best if my son was able to actually get to the site and get all this first hand, but he has no PC. However, I will most likely see him over the weekend and will have him take a look around the site. Actually, he and I have discussed the help that is here and we are in agreement as to what we think he may need, as far as the 'medications' here. I realy wanted a little more insightl from some of you who have used these products and how they helped you. I need to get an order in ASAP so that he can begin his treatment.
He has been to a rehab a couple of years ago for 3 weeks. I STILL say the worse thing they said to him was, 'YOU WILL
HAVE A RELAPSE' and he did. I believe that puts it into one's mind that it's expected so go ahead, it's ok. Of course, it could happen at any time, but he was fragile at the time. No, neither of us blame none other than himself and his addiction. He KNOWS he has an addiction and that it is ruining his life. I'm not much for the rehab thing, since they just replace the alcohol with other 'drugs' that one can't even afford when they get home. It's called replacing one drug with another. It's a viscious circle!! We have been talking about this and he does KNOW that it will be HIM who stops this terrible addiction, and ONLY him.
Thanks again for your replies and I pray for your recovery and many blessings in your lives.

well then, from personal experience i am using l-glutamine (an amino acid) and kudzu, an herb for cravings. they have served me well this past month and i would reccommend them to help take the edge off cravings.

            hope this helps

WM, two things. First, I'd recommend that if you get him anything, you get him the MWO book, which sets out all kinds of information about supplements. Plus, here on the website there is an update you can print out, about dosages. And if you go to the "health store" there are descriptions of all the supps, and what they (possibly) are helpful with.

Finally... can your son get online at a public library? I still say... having him come here, himself, would be MUCH, MUCH more helpful for him, than getting supplements from his mom. I absolutely know and appreciate that you are being helpful... and I hope that your son will begin to do the "ground work" for figuring out what he needs for his recovery, on his own...

I do so feel for you! I worry about my mother and father. And myself. Give them love and advice. Show the MWO website.

**Worried Mama, excuse me, that last post was the remnants of too much wine. I still hold by that philosphy, but I wouldn't normally be so rude. My bad.**

LOL..Zen!! I certainly didn't find that 'rude' in the least!! It's the TRUTH!! I say that all the time.

These work for me too, Get the Kudzu from this site, the l-glute can be found in bulk at Walmart or at Buy Discount Vitamins, Supplements, Low Carb and More at www.Vitacost.com. Can your son go to a library and use a computer and peruse this site? Reading posts here and realizing that 'you are not alone' was what made me find my way out.

P.S. Check this out: Liv.52 - Herbal Liver Support It is not expensive and *I* think it is very good.
