    Withdrawal symptoms

Bottomsup, good for you! Remember that MOST "hardcores" do not experience serious, severe, or dangerous withdrawal symptoms. A VERY few people have convulsions, psychotic symptoms, dangerously elevated blood pressure, bad tremors... if any of that starts up you MUST go to an emergency room.

Most of us have some anxiety, sleep disturbance, strong urges to drink, mild flu-like symptoms. Maybe for 3-5 days, at the most. But the sleep disturbance seems to last longer for many; for me, it lasted for several weeks, maybe up to 5 or 6 weeks... and then that faded, too.

        Withdrawals

I don't know how much your consumption comes to on a daily basis, but I was drinking about a qt. to a qt.1/2 a day for a long amount of time. I've gone cold turkey b4 and wound up in ER. After the 3rd day AF I had 20 convulsions in a row and then a gran mal. This time I withdrew for a week on beer, cutting the amt. I drank each day gradually. Then I stopped completely. I had some withdrawal symptoms yes, but mild ones. The only reason I did it this way is because I had no other options at the time. My recomendations for anyone else is to do it with some kind of medical supervision. Believe me having seizures is not fun. I also had hallucinations and was extremely paranoid. Thank God my sister was with me. It's a scary feeling when you start seeing things that aren't there and afraid of a coat hanging on a rack. I remember all this and each one of the seizures. Then I dropped on the floor with a gran mal. That I don't remember. I had to be hospitalized for 6 days. You don't want to go thru that do you? Call a detox or hospital near you and find out your options. The detox center near me is free. It takes 4 days. They give you librium for the withdrawal symptoms. All you really do is sleep and eat. When you get out you feel like a new person. It's much safer this way believe me. Let me know what you decide to do.

          Withdrawal symptoms

Thanks for the info last, I have had alot of evenings where my consumption is only about 4 shots of vodka so I'm thinkng my average is about 1/2 qt a day however, I do start early on the weekends (not today!) I will contact the nearest ER if I think I need to.

And Stepintime, you wouldn't be menopausal would you? The itching legs made me think of that.

Nope, not yet. Had all hormones checked. Not menopause yet.

With regards withdrawals kicking in later, I get that. Each time I manage to abstain, my withdrawals last longer. This time, they were bad for around 12 days, then returned with avengence at day 20. I think it's different for all of us. I am finding mine follow a very definate pattern!

            Regards

              Step,
Did you check out the info on "PAWS" Acute Alcohol Withdrawal Syndroms? Some of your symptoms do sound similar to those.

                Withdrawal symptoms

                I can relate, but...

Stopping is hard. Then I wonder if the "symptoms" are menopause, withdrawal, illness...

I am in full blown menopause with no HRT or anything. Plus going AF. Plus stress galore. So the sleepless nights could be anything. Leg cramps, working out. Sweats--meno? Withdrawal? Tired? Headache? Stuffy??? Allergies or sinus infection?

Too many things at once--seems to be that for many of us. WATER WATER WATER and salad and yogurt and hot baths and sleep.

                Oh, and prayer.

Thanks Lilmea, I hadn't managed to get round to checking it out, but just had quick peek...before going to bed.
Yes...very interesting. I have 'bookmarked' it and will read properly tomorrow. Thank you very much for that link. Was beginning to think it was just me, who had 'prolonged' withdrawal.

                  Hug for you

Just remember that if you give in to AL you will have to repeat the withdrawal process. :upset:

                        Withdrawal symptoms

Everyone is a little diffrent, when I withdrawl I can't even keep water down. I just puke it with yellow bile:upset:Most the time I never make it to the bathroom, so I keep a towel by the bed. I believed I've cleaned the carpet 4 times at least. So why do I ever open another bottle. Because at a certain point I feel talkative and relaxed. If only I could stop there.:upset:
