    Struggling bigtime time get sober

    pain meds alcohol

    Starting Over,

I feel so overwhelmed. I have been on pain meds, anti-seizure- antidepressants for 6 years.
I had a very bad accident..extensive surgery and nerve damage.
    I want off everything!

I want a life...pain keeps me pinned down without meds....

Were you on pain meds for a chronic condition? If not too nosy. I would really like to check into a facility where they could take me off everything :b&d:and monitor my body. Maybe I could use way less meds for pain.

Did you do anything of that sort? anybody?
Lot of personal questions...just so tired of pain, lonliness and inability to anticipate what I can do day by day.

Thanks for any help folks, I really feel like this might be the place that helps me get on track. I need a life.:wavin:

      RolyPoly,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. You really are dealing with a lot, all at once............very difficult.

I am a (recently) retired nurse and would highly recommend looking into some serious pain management. I was on the pain management team at the hospital where I worked and can tell you there are a lot of options out there for you. You need a whole team of people knowledgeable in this specialty. In addition to pain medication, there is specialized Physical Therapy directed by a Physiatrist, Electrial Stimulation devices, nerve blocks, etc. and working with an understanding Psychiatrist......

Living with chronic pain wears on you, no doubt.
Hope you can find a good management team in your area and get some relief.

      Take care,
      Lavande

        Thanks Lavande,
I have a really good physical therapist. Went through 5 (all of whom helped) till I found what I was looking for. He is very well trained in myofascial release therapy. He thinks I've learned to block pain to my detriment..that I hurt myself...wants me to be med free until I can respond to what my body can actually do. Have had chemical ablation of thoracic nerves several times.
I know this isn't a pain site, nor was I looking for one.

It does however, help to know that there is someone knowledgable, that can be open to my reality. I should do a lot of things and not do others....but day to day I reckon.

        bye rolypoly

I am really ready to try ditching the meds (once again) the pain just flattens me.

I really really want control over the drinking.

Remember that changes in our diet often take a couple of months to really take effect. If you drank one day in 15 days, it's 14 days better than drinking every day for the whole 15! So you have still done brilliantly!

I have started running and going to the gym, and it gives me so much energy! I also try to drink water as much as possible - a good replacement for alcohol. Like many, I have fallen off the wagon a few times too, but inbetween when I'm feeling strong and determined - I have adopted a healthy diet and exercise as a replacement for the bad stuff.

I find it hard to simply 'eliminate' something from my life, without having something to replace it with. Replace the bad with something good if you can

                Hope you're feeling better Jackson!

                :new:

Jackson, hope you are feeling better by now, but I know exactly what you are going through. So many times over the past few years, I have gone through withdrawal, and feel EXHAUSTED for at least a couple of weeks. As someone else posted, I truly believe that all our excess energy is being consumed for healing our body. Today is Day 4 alcohol free for me, and yesterday I could barely walk up the stairs! Good luck..... and hope your energy picks up soon!

P.S. I agree about what others have suggested with the vitamins, proper nutrition, and exercise. Normally going through withdrawals, I crave sugar, which is not really great for maintaing your energy levels! But I guess a bowl of ice cream is better than a fifth of vodka!!

Now the alcohol is back in my system and I feel fine. Sick. I need to know if anyone out there has experienced severe withdrawal like this (not the shakes or tremors) but a total lack of energy that is soooo unbearable that it causes you to relapse. I mean after 13 days you should begin to feel better. Maybe not, I really do not know anymore. I was trying so friggin hard to stay sober and I consider myself a fighter but the pain I was in was unbearable. I was also taking campral and was on it over a week and it wasn't doing anything for me. So i was pissed off about that. Anyway, please if there is anyone out their that has struggled like this I would like to hear from you. Writing to you all about this is this is really hard for me to do because I feel like i am just bitching and moaning but I really am going through hell trying to get sober.
Been there done that...it is a trap and it sucks. You just have to get past it. It is not easy but you can do it.

                    Hey JC:

Wow 14 days, that's awesome!!! :goodjob: I am on Day 3. We all slip. We are human.

As far as energy, not sure. I personally take Youth Juice and my supps and the L-Glut. I seem to have lots of energy.

                    Good Luck!!!!
