    is Roberta Jewell among us?

It's wonderful to see you all are really taking privacy to seriously, and not falling into following blindly some of the stuff that gets promoted here. Again, IMHO, that's what a democracy is about. Integrity, honesty, morality, and truth cannot be legislated, by a government or site moderators. Everything that's been going on lately has caused me to do even MORE soul searching of my posts, my motives. It's difficult for me to understand why anyone would want the responsibility of a a 'following'. Personally, the last days have weighed heavily on me, and the last thing I want is for someone to take my posts as gospel. They are OPINIONS, and just mine. MY experiences, My failures, MY successes, and my only purpose for being here is to keep fighting against my own problems with AL, and maybe give some hope and support to others. Some people are born caregivers, not wanting or expecting praise or stutus, and it takes a toll. Every wrong cannot be policed. Every wrongdoer cannot be punished. This site is to help people who are weakened by AL reach out, find support, and become strong enough to find their own way. Anyone with an agenda here is quickly smelled out, and exposed. Just my opinion.

If not for Roberta many of us would be lost in a deep, dark hole and I thank her for making this site.

Well said, Ruby & Beaches. I certainly did not mean to imply that I was not eternally grateful for the support here and to RJ for making this site possible. It is a lifesaver!

Clearly I'm out of the loop. What is this about a website? That really disturbs me! Most of the people here are wonderful in unique ways, but I really don't like when people use this site for self-aggrandizement.

Wow, I sure came to the party late!!!
I love this site. It has helped me in so many ways.
We each give as we can and take as we need.
I have enormous respect and gratitude to RJ for her courage and her compassion and her foresight.
I have received so much help in my personal struggle with alcohol and have the added bonus of making new friends. Friends I will cherish for the rest of my life, regardless of whether we meet in real life or not.
I am sorry that along with all the help and compassion, there is occasionally the drama. I wish it were not so.
I echo YoungAtHeart's concern. It would be tragic for someone to use this site for their own private agenda.
I also feel that privacy is all important. I have established contact with some members that I "trust" in the real world. Both in real life and in FB. However I am certain I can rely on their discretion as they can mine. But that decision was mine to make. I would not appreciate being "outed" without my full knowledge and permission. It took me months to make that first tentative step. I can understand that others might never feel comfortable, in the beginning I didn't think I would. And I took great comfort and courage in the anonymity this site offers. Sorry, writing a novella again.
RJ thank you. You have made my life so much better by sharing your experience and this fabulous website.

HopefulSpirit - you did nothing wrong. You asked a genuine question and received an answer.

And then the thread got into some squabbles. That'll happen.

And then the thread did a sharp left turn.

Brightlite - I normally tend to stay away from any sort of fracas but in this case, I'm with you. Methinks the good doctor protesteth too much and my bull-shit detector is eating up the batteries.

I'll leave it to the powers-that-be to attend to things.
              :thanks:

                    is Roberta Jewell among us?

I have gotten a look at the website and a couple of the you tube videos. I appreciate all of you folks who have looked into this and made others, and me, aware of it. I don't think Dr. Phill has bad intentions, but I think he is rather inappropriate and is clueless about boundaries. I'm naturally suspicious of those who seem to have an agenda or believe in one way to the exclusion of all others (although he might protest this remark...).

I don't always keep up with the threads as much as I should, but if anyone sees a problem, PM RJ or the Forum Moderator. I have done so with success in the past.

I'm not as involved as I used to be, but RJ has been a life-saver for me and I am eternally indebted to this site, to RJ, and especially to the wonderful friends I have made here, who helped me to save myself from myself!

Ms. Frog, please make sure your batteries are always charged; your BSD remains in fine shape.

Just cruising about & happened on to this. Have not checked the site for weeks.

Sad. Ridiculous. The drama will never end. More often than not the drama is actually damaging. I am glad I am away.

Hey RJ, Gab, Kath, Hart ..will always love you. Wish you the best.

I'm here, but very much in the background these days. When I established this forum nearly five years ago, my goal was to create a self-sustaining online community to support people in recovery. As you old-timers know, I was very much involved early on and it required a tremendous investment of time and other resources.

I am simply unable, at this point in my life and career, to dedicate the same amount of energy to this forum. Like you, I have a job, kids, and many commitments. It's no reflection of my interest in this community or the people who participate. It's life. I?m sure those of you with the same personality traits (perfectionist, controlling, workaholic) have come to understand how important it is to let go, find balance, and focus on your health as you work on overcoming your alcohol dependence.

We now have a forum of nearly 12,000 members, with over 1,000 people coming to visit each day. I am deeply moved every time I visit the board and see the generous spirit shown by so many of you who reach out to others in need of help. Thank you for that. It?s really what this place is about?not me, or my life, or my personal journey. I remain diligent in my efforts to stay sober (I am now abstinent), and I don?t think I would have gotten here without the choices this program offers. I encourage everyone to take from MWO what is useful to them, and to lean on others for help. The support of family and friends is important. The support of others who suffer with the same disease is critical.

As a side note, I would ask that each of you respect our members? privacy?whether me, or anyone else. Nothing is gained by exposing another?s name, location, or personal communications. We have worked very hard to ensure that everyone is protected in this regard.

A belated Happy New Year to each of you.

                          In health,

                          RJ

Thanks Shiraz, I missed that post. I'd like to thank RJ personally, I did email with her a couple of years ago before I found the forum personable, when I was doing the Topa regimen and my hair fell out. But I'm sure I thanked her but since I don't clearly recall, I wish I could again. I wonder if she reads our crazy threads. I know she doesn't spend much time here but if she does, does she use Roberta Jewel? I don't recall...
