How Do You Get Through Day 1?

I've been drinking 10 light beers a day for about 6 weeks. I know I'm an alcoholic...just can't get and stay stopped. I want so badly to go get just a 'few' beers...to edge off...but that's what I've been doing for weeks and I black-out with just one and then the race is on again.

I have some Campral and Valium and anti-nausea medication. I'm not worried about medical problems from stopping. I am just depressed and tired as hell. My mind and body are mush. I know this will get better in 3 days, 5 days, 10 days and especially if I can get sober enough to start attending to my diet, exercise and supplements.

I just want this Day 1 to become a Day 2.

    Thanks, NickNat

The first 2 days are the worst with physical and mental symptoms. I just confined myself to the bedroom with plenty of water and get some sleep.

hi niknat, today is my first day, i'm in the uk and it's 8 am. lastnight whilst drinking, i experienced a red flushed face and shortness of breath. a bit scary as i'm very overweight and only 32! today's wake up call! good luck, let's do this, just for today, and concentrate on tomorrow when it comes. xx

How Do You Get Through Day 1?

I'm back here, after what has been nearly 2 years! Where has the time gone to? Shame I didn't stay here when I first dipped my toes in for help.
All I know is that my drinking has escalated and now I really do have to do something as it is wrecking my entire life.
Today is going to be the first day of the rest of my life - a sober, healthy and loving one.
I can't stand how I feel presently - hungover, angry, depressed and alone.
Not sure I have the guts to go AF although I know that is what I should do and make each day count, as I too would like that feeling of moving from Day 1 to Day 2
So NickNat, I will try along with you and wish you good luck.
                Thanks ButterflyBe

Hi Nicknat, ditto to all the above, and yeah the first couple of days are the hardest, but you know the concept ODAT? well my best advice for the first two days is OMAT ( one minute at a time) it really really works and also urge-surfing, acknowledge the urge to drink in your head, face it and 'tell it' you won't have a drink this minute or the next minute and before you know it that urge is gone,- that also really works (for me anyway)
                  Best of luck:welcome:

Think the OMAT will be helpful approach for me; so far 120 minutes!

How Do You Get Through Day 1?

hi nick,i cant lecture you,1t base youve done, realising you drink to much, alchoholic, biggest word in the dictionary, one is alkie when they say they are, watch out who you say it to,one of the reasons they have programs like here and AA,what you say here ,stays here,as you can see, most dont use there givin name, youll understand why i say that some day, maybe not,i beleive alchoholism is mind over substance, ive been doing this for about 12 years, but i drank for 40,you can see ive had more pratice art the latter one, hahaha,i can also joke about it,lets face it when people started to drink or see others drink,it was concidered normal,to put alchohol in the body,it isnt normal, for some, they get this odd reaction, like theyve been poisoned, they are poisoning themselves, then you see a doctor, they say you drink to much, but there half in the bag when they examine you, cause they perscibe drugs to bring you down, plus there on the stuff themselves,as many have said the 1st day is hardest,i beleive it was for me to,my new friend nick wlecom to the club.youve made the 1st step to a better life, here there is nothing you can do wrong, just trying is an accomplishment in its self, now i have to do a bit of shopping, and you no what, its 601 am,writing this to you has saved me from haing my 1st drink, but if i chose to have one later i have a choice thnx for reading this and i wish you well gyco, and to the rest of my friends here ,help the guy out with a comment haha

Make the decision. You've done it. Tell yourself that you can drink tomorrow if you finish Day 1. Then see how you feel now you've achieved what you didn't think was possible.

How Do You Get Through Day 1?

I made through Day 1!! I did what ya'll said...lots of water, OJ, chamomile tea, ate something, stayed in bed and watched movies and slept and prayed my butt off alot too. It felt SO good to not wake up at 2 AM, covered in sweat and realizing that I drank again the day before and don't remember much at all.

Now for Day 2. The worst time for me--craving/mental obsession--are midday for about 5 hours. I'm prepared to just stay in bed again during that time and check back in here. I start worrying and wondering that it's just no use to detox again as I'll end up going back to it.

Butterflybe and girly wirly, glad you're here to keep on stopping with me.

Well done NickNat, that first day over for you and you found the positives too when you were not woken at 2 am in hot sweat, realising you had been drinking again and not remembering much about the events of the day before! Will look forward to that feeling! So, 'hold on' to that good feeling and I trust it will help you through Day 2. Really proud of you and hope I can be proud of myself tomorrow morning too. However, I am still struggling with Day 1 (only mid afternoon here), but all being well I will post you with positive thoughts when entering my Day 2.
