Day 8 and feeling the urge
Hi K9!
Thanks for caring! I did good yesterday - man those cds are just fantastic, really helping me ...or is it because I can actually lie down & have peace & quiet for a full hour!!!
Ha! Whatever, onto day 5 today & just doing the ole ODAT.
I'm a bit of a K9 lover too - got 1 Kelpie x Border Collie (working) 1 Kelpie x Huntaway (learning to work) & 1 kelpie x Weimeraner ( too old to work but my best friend).
Had a Golden retriever that died from snake bite last October & I miss her so much - would love to get another & am researching into good breeders etc etc.
Is that you in the photo of your avatar? You look young & stunning ( don't worry, I'm 41 & married & straight so not trying to hit on you!!).....wouldn't even think you'd have a prob with al!! Sorry didn't mean to pry.
Anyway, enough prattle. A big hi to you today.

Day 8 and feeling the urge
Beagle, glad to read that you made it through another day sober. That's all any of us can do - one day at a time!
What is a kelpie? What kind of work does your BC do? (herding? If so, what?) What is a Huntaway, and what kind of work in training? A good friend of ours that Mr. Doggy trains with has a Weimeraner as a pet. His working dogs are Malinois and he trains them for Schutzhund (tracking, protection, obedience) and also French Ring. (so LOL, they don't do any REAL work!)
Mr. Doggy has German Shepherds in training for Schutzhund. He is trying to get his Schutzhund 1 with the older one - hoping to pass this fall. That one is a West German Showline. The other young one he is just starting is from Eastern Euro working lines.
MY dog is a BEAGLE. We also have a mutt and another retired show shepherd. I'm sorry for your loss of your Golden. They are such loving dogs. A golden would probably make a better pet than all 5 of ours combined! (but I'm not giving them up!)
Anyway...great job on your sobriety!
DGSobriety Date = 5/22/08
Nicotine Free Date = 2/27/07
One day at a time.

Day 8 and feeling the urge
Hi Doggygirl!
Wow so many questions...& the same back atcha re some of your breeds!
The Kelpie is the quintessential Aussie working dog, medium build, short coated, usually black & tan or red & cream in colour (or straigt brown with the Red Cloud Kelpie) prick ears, athletic, full of "eye" ( as in see something like sheep/birds etc & go into slo-mo,one step at a time, then herding instinct full tilt (hopefully upon instruction!)....bred mostly to work sheep. The Border Collie cross is a good little sheep dog also. The distinct diff between our 2 is that the kelpie x Huntaway ( a NZ breed much like a flop eared short coated german shephard, bred to work sheep) is an excellent yard dog - full of bark & zipping everywhere to push sheep through yards or into sheds. The Kelpie x BC is a good paddock dog, casting out wide around the mob to herd them across paddocks, through gates, bringing them into the yards. All these breeds very common in Aust now with various crosses being preferred by diff farmers. The Blue Heeler is not so favoured as too much bite so is more of a cattle dog.
What are your breeds mentioned? The German lines I'd guess would be more into Agility/obediance is that right?
Good on you for your choice of dog - that was my first as a teenager & boy was he a corker. Fit little bugger & I obendience trained him to try & get SOME control, & he died at 15 from splenic cancer. Died on my lap, 9pm during harvest. God it was heartbreaking, soul destroying & I lost my plot for 2 weeks until I got another pup (my current Wiemy cross).
Always loved the gun-dogs, just suits my personality I guess.
Plan is to get another Goldy - check out the underoos thread a day or 2 ago where I posted some (very large!) photos of her. Died of snakebite last October (only 9 months).
Thanks for your encouragement on my af time - gonna need it!
