Freaking Out @ Pregnancy Again!!! Ultrasound today...

...showed that I am further along than I had thought which means I had a 5 day drinking binge when I was SIX WEEKS pregnant (four weeks from conception)! Your stories and honesty made me feel so much better, thank you so much for sharing them with me, however, after today's ultrasound I'm freaking out all over again. My poor little baby was going through so much development, growth, and changes while I had a self-pity party perhaps causing some sort of physical or mental deformity. I am going to be honest with the doctor tomorrow about the amount of alcohol I consumed now that we know how far along I am.

We did see the heartbeat...160 beats per minute. Such a beautiful sight. I fell in love with my sweet little (one inch!) baby the second I saw the ultrasound photos.

Please ladies, if you did indeed drink as far along as I was and as much as I did (1 bottle of wine per day) please share your experience. I am in desperate need of encouragement so that I can have a sane mind for the rest of this pregnancy. It is YOU that calms me down as the books and internet paint a bleak picture.

    Thank you for your kindness.

I drank at least a bottle of wine every night up until I found out I was pregnant with both my children. Once I found out I was expecting I stopped immediately and like you I was very worried about the damage that I had done. I confessed to my GP that I had been drinking very heavily and she simply said that there was nothing I could do about that now, just to focus on staying healthy which I did for the rest of the pregnancy and gave birth to two healthy girls. Just try and remain relaxed, nothing you can do will change the past, focus on today and not having a drink. All the best, I know how you are feeling!

Hi hopefulwomen. Me too. I drank a bottle of wine every day during the first 6 weeks of pregnancy with both boys until I found out. Both are healthy, smart, and athletic. Just make sure you abstain for the rest of your pregnancy. Enjoy being pregnant and alcohol free. Best wishes to you :l

            Hi Hopeful,

There have been lots and lots of us who have told you we drank just as much, if not MORE than you did. Its not an uncommon thing to have happened at all. I know your a ball of nerves, but you should just try to relax and not stress yourself out. I would imagine the stress is not good either.

Just have some faith, relax and enjoy this special time. Take good care of yourself, you and your baby will be just fine. And please let us know when little one gets here!! We like pictures too

              Hi Hopeful,
I also consumed and smoked before I found out I was pregnant with both of my boys.

They are both fine beautiful and healthy 12 and 14 year olds! Involved in athletics, band, and both in Honors and Accel classes!

I remember what you're feeling. Move forward with your healthy pregnancy. Enjoy and relax. Put your feet up and eat some ice cream!

Thanks ladies. Your stories really do help, it's just I'm so nervous all over again because I am 2 weeks further along than I had thought (I was on estrogen following a surgery to correct infertility so my cycle went totally wacky! After all of that tracking and charting, hmph!). Most ladies know they are pregnant BEFORE 4 weeks post-conception (i.e. 6 weeks pregnant) and have stopped drinking. I did, but when the doctor told me it wasn't a viable pregnancy, I fell apart. I'm still puzzled as to where that little baby was during what is now considered a 6 and 7 week ultrasound! We saw the yolk sac at week 7 but no sign of a baby. That little bugger is already playing tricks on me, I guess. Could the measurements of yesterday's ultrasound be wrong?

I am having a hard time getting what I've read out of my mind...facial deformities, brain abnormalities, how critical the first trimester is and that everything you ingest goes straight to the baby...when I type that it does seem a little ridiculous. "Everything
?" In the 60's mothers were popping pills to calm their nerves and for years they were drinking while pregnant, although most didn't binge like I did.

Your stories genuinely help me. Like I said though, I am now worried because I was so much farther along, I believe two weeks after a missed period. Most women figure out they are pregnant by then and start living a healthy lifestyle. I have almost every other week of this pregnancy, it is just 5 days of drinking, crying, and sleeping.

I am rambling now. The same thoughts keep going through my head over and over. This I know is not healthy for the baby (nor me) so I will reread your stories when I start to worry and hopefully the doctor can put my mind at ease a bit this afternoon.

Thank you so much again, ladies (and Gyco). You are such blessings to me right now.

When I found out I was pregnant I was 5 weeks along and had binged probably close to the entire 5 weeks. I quit the second I found out.

I have a 9 year old, smart as a whip beautiful girl who just got straigt A's on her report card.

They are resiliant. I trust and love that your child will be as beautiful as mine and that you will be as lucky as I was.

                    Just quit now.
Every day is a day to start over and remember that I am powerless over my addiction. I will no longer give the BEAST any power over me - he can go straight to hell.

HI AM talking about the weeks of pregnency..I hope it will helps you.
                      Pregnancy Week 1-Week 4
The 1st week of pregnancy commences using the day of the lady?s last period. Towards the end of 4th week of pregnancy, you can find fertilization belonging to the egg and therefore the beginning from a new life. This is the time if the early pregnancy week by week symptoms begin to show in.
                      Pregnancy Week 5-8
Now could be the proper time for taking the pregnancy test. It really is commonplace on your tests to generally be accurate surrounding this period. Through the 6th week, the would-be baby?s heart starts beating! The future mom might start experiencing morning sickness throughout the 7th week. Moreover, from the 8th week, her fetus has small legs and arms!
                      Pregnancy Week 9-12
It will be between the 9th and 12th week which the pregnant woman?s stomach gets enlarged to build room on her behalf fast developing fetus. She notices several different modifications in her body. The fetus begins moving included in the mum, though she might not necessarily realize it yet. And also the 12th week, the intensity of morning sickness starts lessening.
                      Pregnancy Week 13-16
Amongst the 13th and 16th week, you?re able to be aware of the gender of the people which includes a low level of certainty. After the 14th week, the mom can take heed to her future baby?s heartbeat throughout the trip to a clinic. She also notices movements of her baby, as her bones commence to become hard.
                      Pregnancy Week 17-20
The time scale from 17th to 20th week marks fast growth and development of body parts of the baby. The fetus is covered by fine hair called ?lanugo.? Within this phase of childbearing, it is possible to know the gender from the fetus accurately by taking an ultrasound test.

                      Pregnancy Week 21-24
All around the 21st week, the fetus actually starts to learn breathing. The girl can experience few contractions within this phase, as her uterus begins preparation for the task of having a baby. When one approaches the 24th week, the process of fat depositing starts within the baby, which helps keep up with the body?s temperature after its birth. Pregnancy Week 29-32
Surrounding the 29th week, the child?s head grows rapidly in proportion towards the remainder of the body. Its eyes and brain are developed to an outsized extent. When one approaches the 32nd week, only lungs remain to be fully developed.
                      Pregnancy Week 33-36
Should the 33rd week begins, the fetus can close and open its eyes. Its finger nails get developed during this time. In the 36th week, the embryo includes a weight of around 4 pounds and it is 16 inches long.
                      Pregnancy Week 37-40
This is actually the climax on the entire pregnancy. By this time every one of the organs of the baby, except the lungs, are developed. Lungs, however, continue to develop. There might be childbirth anytime relating to the 38th and 40th week since the baby is ready to land on this planet!

                        Don't worry your pregnancy away

First off.....what is done is done. Second.....I got pregnant and found out at 2 weeks.....only because I thought I was miscarrying......they had to do surgery only to find out everything was ok....BUT....the hospital had me on morphine for a week during this time. I talked about my concerns with the nurse. She relieved me a bit....but, I still worried. I had drank heavily until finding out......then put on morphine.....all I can say is that my little boy turned out perfect.....and 8 years later still is. Enjoy eating well and taking a much needed break from AL.

My only advice is to really do what is needed to not pick up again after the baby comes.....I did.....and its not worth it. Use this as time to get off the shit.

                          Hi HopefulWoman

I think this may be an older post, but i am going to answer it anyway.
I first joined MWO in Dec. 2005 -- yes a very long time ago. Dipped my toe in, made a few friends, went and bought the supplements...and 2 weeks later found out I was pregnant. Returned all the supps because I didn't know if they were compatible with pregnancy. This was Jan. 2006 and of course drank my way thru the holidays. (As if that is an excuse) Anyway, there were 2 things: 1)I didn't really want to drink when I was pregnant. It didn't appeal to me that much. I would have A glass of wine or A beer now and then, mostly later in the pregnancy. 2) The fact that I didn't want to drink was part of what tipped me off that might have been pregnant. I was sick and recovering from a cold (which usually wouldn't have stopped me from drinking) but it all felt weird.
At any rate, i drank before I knew I was pregnant, but when I was pregnant I had a drink or 2 here and there; beer or wine in an evening. Sometimes it was tough; other times it didn't matter.
My son just turned 5 and he is intelligent, inquisitive, full of energy.

Please let me know if you have any more questions. i understand being in that place. Best to you.

I had your same fears, drank a lot unknowingly while pregnant. A lot of wine. I expressed my fears to my doctor and he said "this is one of the most common things I hear from pregnant women, and there is very rarely a problem. Just stop now." which I did, and had a perfect baby boy. I didn't take the pregnancy test until I was a few weeks late, so I was petrified. He's now 16, honors student, no issues.

I suspect the problems with FAS come in when you are a long time binge drinker and drink around the clock, and lots of it. I think you will be fine! Try to not worry and trust that things will be ok. They usually are.

                              hopeful,
I am in the SAME BOAT as your post. I just joined this site and am worried. My pregnancy test has come back positive (very faintly, but it is there), and the last month, I have drank. The weekend before last I binge drank a few nights with wine and vodka. I took a test this past Thursday and saw the positive sign. UGH... I feel so ashamed. Reading from your post and the others, I do feel a little better. It is so heartwrenching knowing what I've done to my body with a little baby inside. Open to more suggestions/advice from others, please. Thank you!
