Withdrawals - Need HELP
Some of you may remember me, I am in and out. Of course, when I am drinking, I am usually out. Well, I read Allen Carr's Easyway to Stop Drinking and I don't know, but so far so good. I do realize that alcohol benefit me not at all. Right now though, I am going through withdrawal. It's day four for me, but I had a minor surgical procedure where I was giving verced which is a benzo which of course helped to keep the withdrawals at bay. Now I have them, nervous, insomnia, restlessness. I know I could do a beer taper, but I do not want to do that. I actually at this point don't want to drink again not even to help me get through this. I am not telling my PCP. I cannot have that on my record. Any suggestions for instance mayve vitamins? I have been taking benydril to sleep, but tonight it didn't work.

Hey X,
Try to eat well. Re supplements - Thiamine is the best one you can take (Vit B1) and potassium as well.
You've made a brave decision. Good luck - withdrawal is never fun.

Unisom is found over-the-counter and only has the sleep agent. Take a long hot bath or a walk. This will pass. Just think, if you drink, you start over with withdrawals. You are 4 days in already. You will get there.Forever loved, forever missed Papa Bear

X, did you read the book MWO. It has great suggestions for the anxiety and they are all non prescription. Some are available at health food stores and some in regular pharmacy.
If you are 4 days in, you are through the worst of it. Plenty of lemon water as suggested.
Calms forte, the ALL-One vitamins, GABA were all helpful for me.
Keep it up, you have a great start.

Benedryl, if you mean the cough medicine contains alcohol!!!!!So not a good choice really unless counting it as part of a taper. Regards the nervousness etc, to be honest it passes within a short amount of time and is minor compared to shakes, fits etc.
I know this is a bit hardline but for me I looked at the days when I couldn't sleep etc as something I had to go through. If there were no negative effects it's not going to put us off drinking, and it's one experience I use in my arsenal/resolve not to drink again. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying horsewhip yourself or put yourself in danger, but it's something that can be gotten through and is minor compared to the suffering AL causes.
By the way one thing I did use, and still use now is camomile tea. It's a natural relaxant but non-habit forming. So very good for withdrawls, times of stress etc.

Thanks, all! I am not sure I was going through withdrawals, I think I overdid it on the benadryl trying to sleep. It was the tablet kind (no alcohol). I got the calm forte and thiamine and am taking vitamins daily. This is day five and it is still amazing to me. I pray I can always feel like this and this will not be temporary. What alcohol did to me. It gave with one hand and took back with the other. It gave all sorts of promises to calm me and relax me and stressed me out like no other problem had before. I hope I will always remember that and not turn to it again like it is my only friend.

I'm not sure if I'm posting on the right thread, but this morning I woke up with anxiety bad enough to chase me out of bed early. I had a suspicion though that's it low blood sugar and hastily made a cup of tea with a spoon op sugar and a digestive biscuit. Sure enough the anxiety were soon much better. Have any of you experienced this? Or it might be helpful for someone else.make the least of the worst, and the most of the best - everyday.
