    Desperately trying

Nothing more to say other than I am desperately trying not to drink and having a very difficult time with it. Feel like I am in a downward spiral that I just can not pull myself out of.

Techie, yes I picked up a glass but I just poured the rest of the bottle down the drain. Usually don't post if I have been drinking.

Hey, Cuckoo-you are going through the same thing as me right now- just stay on the computer until it passes- if that helps...

Cuckoo, good for you pouring the rest of it out. Would it help to do something active, like go for a walk or bike ride or gym or whatever you like to do to keep moving? That always helped distract me. Also, have you eaten? Avoid HALT:

Look pull yourself back up. I know it's not easy, but you can still turn this into a positive. I'm glad you posted. The rest is down the drain. Good! Now can you find something else to occupy yourself with so your not focused on the drink? TV, reading, MWO chat???

              Hi Cookoo,

Well done for having the strength to pour that poison down the drain. I agree with DG if you can get yourself out the door for a little while, go for a walk, jog, bike-ride anything physical. Change your environment for a little while. Walk in the park, the mall, go to the library, cinema, anywhere at all to change your focus and thought processes. If you cant do these things, stay on the boards and RIDE THE WAVE of the craving until it passes. I find playing music, loud energetic music is enough to switch my brain to a positive state. Drink heaps of water and eat...a full stomach sometimes take care of that empty craving anxiety in the gut. Sending you heaps of strength....you can do this

Thank you all so much for your responses. I'm going to go start a thread in Tell Us Your Story to start focusing on the positives in my life. Doggygirl, I live alone so it is so easy for me to isolate, which is what I do most of the time.

Sheri, yes I am still volunteering at the animal shelter and it is so nice of you to remember that. And huge congratulations on your being AF for over a year and a half. So proud of you.

Cuckoo, I can relate to that isolation. Even married, all I wanted to do was hole up by myself and drink. It took a lot of huge effort just to make myself get out of the house and do stuff once I started working on sobriety. LOVE that you volunteer! That is such good work for such a good organization. Hope you can find some other good stuff to do that gets you out of the house. Too much sitting around by myself starts dragging me down.

I am not one to offer fabulous words of advice, but just wanted to let you know I am thinking of you and including you in my prayers. You have been such an awesome source of encouragement to others of us here, I want you to know we are here for you.

                          Best wishes.

                            Hi there Cuckoo,

Just dropping by to say Hello and wish you luck, I'm fairly new here and you have had lots of advice from others more experienced than me but all I do know that works for me is to have a plan and keep it to hand, try and get some AF days under your belt because that really does give a different perspective and just take it ODAT, even one hour at a time or a second at a time. I use a lot of distraction techniques when the urges hit and usually find something physical and active is better for me than reading or watching dvd's.

                            Hope you are good

Enjoy today - there will be no other one quite like it....

Thank you, Horsegirl and Dewdrop, for your kind words of encouragement. So far so good. I'm taking it as you said, a moment at a time. I'm truly hoping if I can get some AF days under my belt it will give me the incentive to keep on keeping on. Horsegirl, thank you for including me in your prayers.
