    Sores

Hi everyone. I haven't checked in lately, mainly because I'm still drinking; at least a big bottle of wine a night. I guess that I'm just not ready to quit. I don't know.

Anyways, I have a question. The last couple of days, I've noticed some sore spots in my mouth. One on the roof of my mouth and one kind of under my tongue. Not in places that I could have accidentally bit my gums. I'm worried. Why are they there? could it be because of the drinking? I'm really concerned.

Hi jewels, could it be you have mouth ulcers, gargling with salty water, sometimes helps. Not sure if this helps, but only a thought I had. Have a good day. Lilly x

Does sound a lot like mouth ulcers.
Look, mate there are a few different causes for mouth ulcers. I suppose it's highly likely that you are run down ? Not eating properly ? Vitamin deficient perhaps ? (VERY likely with alcoholism)
Is it time for a visit to your doctor and a request for help ? (If you haven't already of course)

Hi Jewels, I agree with Bridget. Most likely it is mouth ulcers, I used to get them a lot, they are a sign of being run down. However anything wrong with your mouth needs checking out and I would definitely think of visiting the doc. It may be a way to approach everything with him/her?

The wine is very acidic, it's probably caused by that..I would try some warm salt water a few times a day. Can you cut back on the wine intake at all?

Hi Jewels yes i would agree its due to the drinking and being run down. its most likely mouth ulcers but do get it checked by your dr at least he/she could give you tablets or ointment to clear it. I get similar sores when i drink heavy for a few days. Wine is a very acidic drink plus you don't absorb vitimins properly. I don't eat so well when i'm drinking so i ted to feel very tired after a bender and i sometimes get a cold sore on my lip. Gargle with the salt water and try get some pure fruit juice in the morning. Try and eat as well as you can with lots of fruit and veggies. And of coarse hun if its tough to stop try taper down till you feel you can really give it your best shot at quiting. Don't leave it till your 40's like some of us here. I read in one of your posts that you are 27. Let us know how you get on.:l

Assuming it is mouth ulcers, it could be an allergic reaction to something you ate. I used to get them when I ate chocolate (horrors!) but I outgrew it.

If you are taking L-Glutamine it could be from that as well. I used to take it in a powder form, and wow, I would get mouth sore, and sore throats so bad I thought I had strep--went to the dr's , swabbed and no strep. There is an Oral B box I have bought in the pharmacy (in the toothpaste area)here in Canada, and there's little packets that you add to water and gargle with and it works amazing.

It COULD be a lot of things. But it's nothing to play with. See your dentist, or doctor, if they don't go away. Do you smoke?
My Momma was real 'old-school'. When we got mouth ulcers, she said it was because we needed a good 'working out'. In her old fashioned wisdom, she knew that the poisons in our body were trying to work themselves out, through the closest way. Meth addicts begin to have body sores. Why should we be much different? At least drink tons of water to flush your system. Don't just cover the symptoms - address them.

                        Hi,

Drinking definitely can contribute to mouth sores. I would also get sores in my ears and a rash on my chin from drinking excessively.

I also get mouth sores every time I eat pepperoni, salami, or any type of meat that was high in sulfates. If you are drinking red wine in vast amounts, it can also cause a reaction. That was what happened with me anyway when drinking red wine. I would drink 1.5 litres a night at the time.

If you haven't already, check with a doctor if gargling with salt water for a couple of days won't help. Also those Oral B packets that christyacc was speaking about are good as well.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Every time I went on a serious binge I'd get mouth ulcers. Combination of Al depleting your body and being run down. Mega doses of Vitamin C always brings them under control very quickly, but the best cure is to STOP drinking and take control of your body, keeping in mind the components of:
Fuel: Vitamins, amino acids, healthy diet etc
Oxygen: Iron, exercise (about 20 mins per day of aerobic) etc
Rest: Plenty of sleep (impossible when drinking).
They're very painful...sometimes I was unable to swallow as they also invaded the soft tissues in my throat.
Hope you get back on track soon. :h:h:h
