      Starlight,

I echo what Neva says. I'm on Baclofen and it helps immensely! It's been a lifesaver for me.

      Good luck to you.

        Brain storming

When I find myself consumed by something (anxiety, depression, or sobriety), I take to reading/talking about it. There's no use trying to put it off. If it's on my mind, I read something positive (like an e-book), and it helps give me the right attitude and courage to overcome it.

Looking for new music can be good for coping, too. I've found immense relief in some of the tracks I've found recently.
edit: a good place to start is amazon.com. Search for an artist you really enjoy, and look at "what others have purchased."

Finally, I will endorse beta-blockers. I use propranolol for performance anxiety and it really enables me.

Have you tried any of the books by Dr. Claire Weekes? She is Australian and I found her books to be a real life saver. Though I must add-I did therapy also. I suffered from EXTREME anxiety and agoraphobia. a few years back. AND NO DRINK WAS INVOLVED. I was a very sober person at the time (early twenties) when it all started up. I started with her book Self Help For Your Nerves. It is written in a very simple clear style that is easy to read. When we have been suffering from anxiety for so long sometimes books written in a too complicated manner can be off-putting. Our brains are just too tired-she calls it "brain fag". Please pm me if you need any tips or just want to talk. I'll keep following this thread:l. expat xxx

Star, I find getting myself on a tread mill helps with the anxiety.

Also if you have an ipod or an mp3 player, there are many audio downloads in the itunes store or Amazon downloads specifically on relaxation, anxiety reduction, self hypnosis, breathing and meditation that you can lie down an listen to. I find that usually when I meditate on my own, I can become distracted... the guided meditations help me. Just type in any of the above in the search box in the itunes store. I particularly like Glen Howard's and Jon Kabatt Zinn's audios.

If you have a CD player, many of the same titles are available from amazon to purchase on CD.

              Hello Star,

I would really recommend seeing a counselor to see what they might recommend. I know these things affect everyone differently, and may have different causes. Holistically, I would try to be sure you are taking all your supplements and trying to at least go for a walk each day and taking a little time to meditate.

So sorry you're feeling this bad! Hang in there! :l
