      What have I done

      Morning Tired,

Hope day 1 went well. I found this site (and still do) the most amazing tool in keeping me sober and sane. The wisdom and encouragement here are awesome. Where else could you go where every one knows exactly how you are feeling!

Please keep posting, the tool box is a wealth of wisdom. If you are having a wobble, check out 'Why I hate, loathe Alocohol' post, its powerful and a great reminder as to why this is the right journey to be on.

Al is very 'cant see the wood for the trees' it not till you step into the clearing, that you can begin to make sense of it.

Good luck and stay strong, we are all here for you
I can not alter the direction of the wind,

But I can change the direction of my sail.

        What have I done

I, too, had the same anxiety about seeing my GP, but the fear was worse than the actual visit. The longer I waited to see the GP, the bigger the "what if's" got.......hang in there. I finally went to treatment because abs is the only way for me. My GP is a huge part of my staying sober. Good luck and be good to you.

          What have I done

What Wag and Blue said, along with all the other support you've gotten, is so true. It's the fear of confessessing our deepest (what we THINK are) secrets. I was once put in ICU for 3 days with heart palpitations. It was an anxiety attack. I'd worked a hard day at the post office, drank (of course) the day before, and had started in again. When the admitting doc saw me, without this history, he said 'At least I can keep you from drinking for 3 days'. I was shocked. Now, he's my biggest supporter. He appreciates my sincerity and desire to heal. And he has had his own recovery.
People know more than we think. And the longer you worry about your health, the longer you wait to fix it.At the least, find a good therapist so you'll have someone to talk to, face to face. And don't give up. A lot of people start out with good intentions, then have another binge or something else prevents them from coming back. That's the WORST thing you can do. You have nothing to be embarrassed about here, no judgement. It's all about healing.

            What have I done

Thank you Ruby Blue & Autumn for your replies, I am on day two and its just gone passed lunch time thank goodness (luchtime normally = my first excuse to stop working (I work from home .. on my own!) and go to the shop for a little "something" for tea and pick myself up a little "something" for dinner) next hurdle is from 4pm to 10pm ..... be glad in a few days or weeks when I hopefully think about this less, but I am still very grateful for getting to day two!

              Baclofen

Dude - check out the meds thread and read up on Baclofen. It is helping SO MANY people stop drinking and totally take away cravings. It is being hailed as a CURE for alcoholism
There's loads of reading on there. It may not be your prefereed choice of action but its worth weighing up the options. I am amazed by the success stories on there and am just keen to make as many people aware as possible.
This article will get u started - its about the French cardiologist who discovered it:-

              Thanks
              C
I am well and truly in recovery, I thank Baclofen, the good people of MWO and my love of spirituality, the combination of which have helped to guide me out of the darkness in the last couple months. Cheers to that.

                  What have I done

Hi Tired, glad you got onto this site now you need to stick with it, there is lots of help out there you just need to find what is best for you. Making the decision to want to change is massive so give yourself a big pat on the back. As other have said try and drink plenty of water, or any other non alcohol drinks, ie juice, fruit teas, horlicks, lemonade etc, I drink loads of decaf tea and that seems to satisfy my need to have a drink beside me. Eat whenever you can and if you dont feel like eating try to force something down as food will help a lot, cup-a-soup is good if you cant manage solid food. take vitamins both multi-vits and vitamin b, also milk thistle is said to help your liver. If none of this is working or you are feeling really bad withdrawing get medical help asap either your doctor or the emergency ward at a hospital. This is important, do not think that you need to do this alone, people on here can support you and give ideas but you need to see a doctor if you are ill beyond having a hangover.
You are starting to look after yourself now, try to remember that you are worth it.
