UK have been great and seem to work fine. Mind you I am only on a relatively low dose.

          Hi cake queen,

just came in late to your post, sorry. My heart breaks for you, Damn that Dr. I went too and plucked every ounce of courage to ask for meds after reading the MWO book, I just begged for help in general. I got no where, I had a rotten lecture about drinking too much and told to man up and get a grip on it. I left there feeling so crushed, I sobbed all the way home. I utterly feel for you. That was 3 years (or so) ago and it really stopped me asking for help for quite some time.

My initial WD were hidious, I had to taper as the pain and shakes were rotten. But huge ammounts of water, calms, and the 'this will pass' mantra got me through it. I drank half strength vodka when I started to taper, so even tho I was pouring a hefty shot, I was only getting half the poisen!

I do hope your'e doing ok. Go easy on yourself, your'e number 1 priority here. It really really does get easier, although it might feel like thats impossible at the time. Please check back in so we know your'e ok.

          sending you huge:l

Just go Cakequeen - we all had to cross that bridge at some time, The doctor;s are very well aware of how many alcoholics there are. You will need help during the withdrawal stage.
Receive a warm hug from me.

Hi Cake, I was just crushed to read how callously your GP treated you. Alcohol withdrawal is serious stuff! People can die from it! Your alcohol intake is significant, so you're really at risk for severe withdrawal symptoms. Did you tell your doctor honestly how much you were drinking? Benzos are very commonly prescribed here in the states for withdrawal. Someone else mentioned you were looking into the meds boards, you will definitely find support there. At some point in my alcoholic "career" I was up to 750mL of gin daily. Please feel free to PM me, would be happy to chat with you more.

CakeQueen....there is a better life out there for you and your family. You need to take a deep breath, and go see your GP. Tell your doctor--that is their job, to help. I speak from experience--10 months ago I walked into my doctors office and told her I needed help to stop drinking. At the end of the appointment, she hugged me. I don't drink any more. Remember what life was like before you started drinking....let that memory give you courage to find the help you need!! Best of luck Wonka.

Wow, LIT--thanks! That's the first I've seen of the RR site. I read through part of it and will return to it later this evening when I have time. Very interesting. I think that any help we can get is worth it, and I've only ever seen the AA model.
                        AF today!

                        TDN:thanks:

                          Pray for the Queen

I was sent to this thread today after making own first post seeking insight from a database of knowlege that only the experienced can bestow.

What I have read was very disturbing, but not for the reasons that would first be apparent.

Here was a woman with a very similar plight to my own. Reaching a crossroad and not knowing which way to turn. She got an amazing amount of support from people on multiple continents who share our disease.

The CakeQueen also received some very fool-hardy and dangerous advice. She was told that a prescription drug could make her feel better. That, without any knowledge of her medical hisory or even knowledge of who she was. She was then given what dosages to take and told where she could buy these drugs online, illeagally.

On the 6th of May she posted "Thanks I am going to order some this evening:thanks:"

Seven days later she posted "Almost cracked it ..." with no mention of whether she had yet to receive her order of illeagally obtained prescription medicine. She has never posted on the forum again.

That was 17 days ago. No posts at all from a person who apologised if she missed a day keeping the thread updated as to her progress.

People, I pray to God that CakeQueen is well and AF...perhaps went on vacation as she was feeling so much better. But please, please take heed of the advice that you dole out to some the most vulnerable people in the world without the simplest of thought to the potential consequenses.

Please, please read more about the success she's had since then in this thread
