    Quitting cold turkey

I have before for about a week, never had any DT's. My questions are:

    1) How long does insomnia due to alcohol addiction last?

    2) Last time I quit for a week, my male libido completely disappeared. I could not "get off" without watching pornography. How long does this last also?

    Thanks for any replies

    Quitting cold turkey

    hey Pat

I am on day 5 and sleeping better but wake up with tremors still and feel hungover but it goes away. i am staying up until i am really tired which seems to help a bit. keep yourself busy so that u r tired.

the libido i have no idea about being a woman but i would not worry about it for awhile, just try giving up AL and if it is a problem still go to the drs.

    good luck

I had the opposite effect..........I slept like a baby for about two weeks after quiting, and have battled insomnia my whole life(aka right freaking now)

We all work our own program. Going cold turkey works for some not others. Do what works for you. For me it was one day at a time and then all of sudden like NELZ, I had put a few days together. I had to quit drinking, tried the moderation route, could not do it. So good on you Pataki621 for making the effort.
I hope you find your way out. It is worth it.
              Love and Peace,

                Quitting cold turkey

I quit cold turkey. But quitting cold turkey isn't for everyone. For me having a big goodbye to AL party did the trick and now I am AF for five months now.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

I also quit cold turkey. I assume what DQ may have meant is that withdrawal from alcohol can be very dangerous. If one has been drinking in quantity on a daily basis for a long time, best to seek medical help.

It took quite awhile for my sleep to normalize, but I also had menopause issues going on which didn't help.

                    Hello,

I was addicted to sleeping pills as well as having a decade-long dependency to alcohol. Because I'd abused ambien for sleep, I struggled with insomnia for quite awhile after kicking my dependency. I ended up consulting a psychiatrist about my problem because I wasn't functioning well at work since I wasn't getting enough REM sleep. He prescribed seroquel, an anti-psychotic, in a 100 mg. dose. It's a great off-label medication for insomnia. I've been taking it for years. Within 20-30 minutes of taking seroquel at bedtime, I'm able to go to sleep. I sleep through the night. Initially I experienced grogginess upon awaking, but after a few weeks I didn't experience any side effects. You may bounce back quickly on your own. You also may not be open to considering a medication for insomnia. Seroquel isn't addictive and in low doses is benign. Just thought I'd tell you how I handled the issue.

I know the PAWS (Prolonged Alcohol Withdrawal Syndrome) theory attests that you can expect to experience the opposite effect you had from abusing alcohol/narcotics for awhile. It's different for everyone.

                    Hope you bounce back quickly!

I have GOT to investigate this, insomnia sucks! I tried to get some Ambien from my doctor, but he gave me some low level melatonin crap.

I hate to struggle with sleep, love it when I am actually tired at night, instead of being wired.

Edit: Just did some research, sounds like exactly what I want, but wont be able to get.

                        Quitting cold turkey

My sister quit cold turkey once and ended up coding on the way to the hospital three times. She was in a very bad way however, drank huge quantities of AL daily. When I stopped I had a bit of sleeping issues and headaches, but it was worth it.

I stopped cold turkey, had insomnia for about 2 weeks but i just made sure i got up early every morning and so tired out my body.My legs and ankles all swelled up to but with time and fitness with healthy eating i got through the worst of it unmarked,I think.

Also like to say no one and i mean no one believed i would stop drinking.
