I recently finished about 60 days AF. While I'd be skeptical that my tolerance returned to normal, I was certain it had decreased. And it had - my wife and I went to a favorite local pub that features vegetarian burgers and eclectic microbrews. I had my two pints and was pleasantly buzzed and that was the end of the evening. Then I hosted a start of summer barbecue at my home. Wanting to leave the beer and wine for our guests, I raided the liquor cabinet, outdid myself and went on the mother of all benders. 7-8 days, with a few added on to taper down. I now understand what "kindling" is (each detox being progressively worse), now that I've experienced it. Before, I had never really felt anything that I would describe as anything more than a particularly intense hangover, but this time, I felt like death. I had body odor that could kill livestock, I would alternate between bouts of intense sweating immediately juxtaposed by teeth-chattering chills, and that damned insomnia (I started a thread about it). Personally, I'm going permanently AF, because next time, it may be hospitalization and full-on DTs. I can't resist that lovely warm glow that our friend ethanol provides, so I'll never be able to trust myself to enjoy it in moderation. That's why they call it addiction, I guess.

Anyone Up For 30 Day AF
Hello Everyone,
Welcome Topper and Aihflvt! Yes, today (Saturday) is my 30 Day and it feels great to be here then where I was 30 days back. I wanted to write last night but I was sooooooooooo tired, getting up at 3:45am in the morning, really catches up to you. I came home yesterday, walked and played with my doggie, had some dinner, took a shower and went to bed. Congrats Sausage on 100 days, sure hope you are going to reward yourself with something nice and have a great time with the family, look forward to reading about your weekend trip.
I want to write more but have ALOT to do today and will check back this evening. I WOULD love to continue writing in this thread tool. I found that staying committed to writing everyday for my first 30 days on this thread, REALLY helped out alot, your support means alot to me. Even if it was just a few sentences.
Anywho, hope everyone is having a good Saturday and I will check back later this evening. Thanks for the "congrats" and I look forward to celebrating another 30 days.....and another....and another....and another....etc...
Lots of hugs,
Janet

Anyone Up For 30 Day AF
Hello Everyone,
Up early and ready to start the day. I figured that it might be best to write now, then later because I know for fact that I will be very tuckered (going to attempt to run twice today) out and will also be busy with getting things ready for the work week (back to getting up at 3:45am).
Janice, great attitude, I love it....enjoy that cranberry juice. How is the juicing going? Did you try try the green drink? It's has spinach, apple, celery, ginger and lemon. Sounds like you are feeling better and hey a "good cry" is most therapeutic. I think we are all going to experience days where we will think for one quick sec about drinking when things are bad or when things are good. It's what we LEARNED and KNOW is the right thing to do. To realize that drinking is not a reward for when things are good nor is it a scapegoat when things are bad.
AmyC, welcome and congrats on your AF days. Try to not be so hard on yourself, I have been a member since 2007 and had PLENTY of "starting over again". Very well said, "all you can do is try again". I hope that you will stay on this site because is ALOT of supportive people here and they all know what you are going through.
Topper & Aihflvt, hope to hear more from you....
Okay, I need to start my day and will check back later for a quick post. Congrats on your AF days! I am really looking forward to this next month because now it's time to start working on building a new life for myself. This afternoon, I will go online and look up a half marathon that I can start training for and can't wait to beat my time. Wow, there is so many things that I want to do and can't wait to FINALLY get done.
Have a great morning or afternoon! Look forward to reading your posts. Off for my first 4 mile run.........
Lots of hugs,
Janet

Hello everyone,
Cheers to the Queen Janice! Welcome amy, aihflvt! Aihflvt, I really appreciate the graphic of detox and the nasty ethanol reference. It really doesn't matter which type of al you pick, it all goes down the same gullet with the same end results. I just got thru another event AF. Yay for me. No really noticed I was not drinking. It seems to be getting easier to say no. It's also great not to be buzzed before the event and drunk leaving the event and not remembering the specifics of the event! Whew.
Yesterday, I spent the day surrounded by great kids and beautiful horses. Ive been helping out with some of the horses, gaining confidence with them, getting to know the different personalities, and really just feeds my soul. I can't wait to go again.
Happy Sunday everyone.

Hello Everyone,
Hope everyone had a great weekend and congrats to your AF day count. It's bed time for me, had a great weekend, very productive. It's so nice to finally have a job to go back to, even though the 3:45am wake up call is hard to get used to, it's worth it.
Anywho, getting ready for bed and will check in tomorrow. Have a great Monday and look forward to reading your posts.

morning everyone...a quick check in for me as its another busy Bank Holiday here. I think its Day 27 for me, I'm not far behind you Janet!! Feeling good although I have got up with a really thick head and feel as if I had a good drink last night - I'm sleeping so heavy since I stopped drinking!! Really enjoyed yesterday's Diamond Jubilee River Pageant on The Thames. Watched the Celebrations on tv but it was an amazing site seeing all those boats on the river..a fantastic day!!AF since 9 May 2012

Hello Everyone,
Congrats Janice on 27 days, you are almost at 30...way to go!!! Ishybit, just ride the "arrrgh" feeling out because that's all it is "aarrrrggh". Let yourself feel this way and again eventually it will subside but in the meantime, just keep doing as much as you can in your day. Compliment yourself for being AF, that would put a smile on my face or treat yourself to something sweet. I hope you feel better......
Anywho, I got to get to bed..........will check in tomorrow.
Hugs,
Janet

Morning everyone. Ishy, Janet is right..realise its 'okay' & normal to have days like this. Imagine how much worse you would feel if you had been drinking. Hope today is a better one for you.
Today is another Bank Holiday in England as the Celebrations continue for the Diamond Jubilee. Might get a bit of gardening done if it stays dry today.
As my 30th day draws closer I am feeling very grateful for my precious weeks of sobriety.
Will check back laterAF since 9 May 2012

Hello everyone,
Thanks for your support yesterday. I worked out twice yesterday. Last night I started a new program so it's got me fired up. this morning was super calm and easy to get my kids up and off to school. What a difference a day makes! I feel on top of the world today so I better take advantage of it and get busy!!
Janice, I've enjoyed watching some of the jubilee celebrations on the news...so much history and pride. Enjoy.
Ishy.
