Anyone Up For 30 Day AF

    Hi Angel,

I hope you rode out that craving. Oney is right, nobody ever died from a craving! And as I like to say, a craving never lasts as long as a hangover!

Remember, you never have to drink again, even if you want to. We're all one drink away from starting over, it's a fragile line, but we are strong, we can do this.

    Hang in there!

      Hi Angel77 & Everyone,

I agree with the advice giving to you, treat yourself to a nice treat. I LOVE SUSHI and luckily I have found a place that sells it for a decent price. What is your favorite food? Or treat? I LOVE velvet or chocolate cake. Yummy!!! You know here's the deal, you have to understand that WE all made a choice to quit drinking because some way or another it ruined things in our lives, it was a decision that WE made. We all have the option to go and drink but it's our choice not to, make sense? So, instead thinking "oh gosh I am craving wine and I can't have it" well you can but you are making a choice not to. Try not to think of it as you "can't" because then your mind will convince itself that you need it. Instead think of it as "you don't want it" and it's not good for you and most importantly think back of when you were drinking and all the bad things that had happened.

Anywho, I hope this helps you and trust me it's a hard thing to do especially when you have had such a relationship with "wine" and now you have to say goodbye. One other thing you might also consider is doing a outdoor activity. I am a die hard runner (just ran a half marathon in April) and also like to go for hikes. Do you have any outdoor activities you like? If you have friends that are supportive, by all means PLEASE take advantage of hanging out with them. I know my BFF has been the best thing in helping me with my sobriety and of course my doggie SweetPea...she's sooooooo cute!

Okay, gotta head out and enjoy the day. I decided to not to go to this interview because of the location, really bad area. Yikes! I rescheduled my Thursday interview (temp agency) for Monday, so that I can have more time to study my software programs. I am quite relieved that I did because it's so important that I test well on these software programs.

Hope everyone is doing well and would love to read about your progress.

      Hugs,
      Janet

          Hello everyone,
I'm working on day 3. Yesterday was easy but today is the tricky, "hey I'm not so bad etc..." so I think I will have to try and gut it out. I'm going to be checking in during witching hour. I'm not long on words but I read a lot of people's posts and I am really grateful to you all.

            Hi Ishy,

I always caved around day 3 or 4 too. Then I'd go into a week long drinking spree, feel like crap, quit for 3-4 days...repeat. Now that's exhausting! Believe it or not, it's so much easier NOT to drink. You don't have to wonder about it, or worry if you have enough to get you through the night, and you never wake up wondering what the heck went on the night before. I know that by day 3 you feel well enough to "forget" the bad about drinking, but how about really focusing on it for a minute? Remember what brought you here. I always say that I am an "all or nothing" type of person. Well "ALL" stopped working for me a long time ago. You may find it did the same for you.
Stay strong and get through day 3! Here's a little Woot to cheer you on! :woot:

Quick check in from me - end of day 76
Very busy day, work then swimming club for kids this evening. Just in, previously I'd reward myself with wine but now it's just glass of tonic water and cup of tea!
              Back tomorrow!

I freakin hated pretending I knew what happened the night before. There is a definate skill in extracting the needed information with out giving away that you know nothing. I don't miss that at all.
I refuse to be labelled or ashamed. Through my struggles I am achieving self awareness and clarity.

K9 - Yes, I did ride it out. Haha yes so true, can certainly say I don't miss hangovers mine seem to last forever. I really dont want to start again so I guess i should keep reminding myself that. I feel like drinking again tonight but I have an assessment due tomorrow that I haven't started and am planning to get up super early to do it. And if I drink tonight I know I wont stop at one..and def wont get up in the morning. So yes I am rambling a bit here as I'm tired. Thanks heaps for your support

planetjanet - Thats a really good way to think. It makes alot of sense. Your advice has helped thank you I actually joined the gym today, so feeling pretty excited about that. Now I just have to actually go... haha Awww I have a little dog also. She is beautiful she was just snuggling next to me in bed. haha well I better get some sleep, thanks again though!

                      Hello everyone,
I made it through day three! Thank you K9 and Planetjanet for your support, "woot!" I managed to stay busy with my girls throughout the witching hours, however I turned into a bit of a witch myself towards the end of the night. I have been waking up a little headachey but happy. I'm enjoying a cup of coffee right now and i think it's constricting my blood vessels to make my head ache go away.

Angel77, I love getting a good endorphin kick from a workout. It's always worth the effort.
I'm hoping that today will be a little easier for me and for everyone. I will be checking in again when I hit the rough patches.

                      Happy Thursday!

Congrats Sausage on AF Day 77!!! Ishybit, way to go on getting through AF Day 3 and maybe after Day 5 you might be interested in going out for workout yourself. Yesterday I went for a 6 mile run and it was so nice.

Well sorry to cut it short but I am pooped again but better to pooped than sloppy drunk and passed out..LOL

Glad that everyone is doing well.

Anyone Up For 30 Day AF

Hi Janet, Ishy, Angel and everyone else.

You are doing great, just keep going.

I've been swimming this morning as I don't work on a Friday. Hope to pick up my running again soon now my foot injury is almost fully recovered.

Janet well done on the 6 mile run yesterday. From your other 30 AF+ day experiences, how different do you feel distance running when you are totally AF from when you drank daily. Does it feel easier? I can't remember what it feels like to train when totally sober ( did my last 10k Oct 2010 when I was still drinking). I didn't run much in my 8 month sober stretch in 08/09 as I was recovering from a hysterectomy and had other health problems.

I'm on day 78 today. Not only do I feel better physically ( happened around day 21) but I have started to feel so much better mentally from about day 65 - seeing things from a glass half full perspective , and not worrying about things I can do nothing about.

Hope you all experience this too. The first week is tough and the first 3 weeks are not at all easy but then it DOES get easier and it is SO worth it.

                          Keep going!

                          Sausage x

                            Good morning everyone
Sausage, it's hard for me to wrap my head around 78 days. Congratulations! Im trying to get through little chunks at a time otherwise i get too overwhelmed. Im the kind of person who likes to stick my head in the sand or not talk too much until im really secure and confident! I do realize however it's important to be here and share and find people who can understand and support " the mission." d.
PJ, your almost in the 2 digit zone! Yippee!
I'm must go for now, going to a bootcamp class!

Ishy, when I started I just took it one little bit at a time

I could never imagine day 78 at the beginning either. I used to type a * at the end after my name to correspond to the number of AF days I had achieved. Even *** seemed like a major achievement at the beginning.

Gradually the days would add up, suddenly I found I couldn't be bothered to type 13 asterisks or whatever so I started typing the no in days and it just grew from there. Suddenly I find myself somehow on day 78 - some days I can't believe it myself.

A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.........keep going. Little by little we travel far.
                              You are doing great.
