day one and already fighting it

I am fighting the urge to "just start tomorrow" instead of today. I know it is the alcohol addiction that is calling me . WHY can i not be strong?

Hi Lexilou, your doing ok if you have got to this time without a drink. If you give in now and drink you may do the same again tomorrow. Look at the tools thread, and get some help, keep posting and you will be ok, I know exactly how you feel, I also know how good you will feel after a few days.

I don't think it's a question of strength at all..we are all pretty damn strong- look at what we have endured all our lives when u think about it.

It's about brain chemistry - serotonin -neurotransmitters- all those fun connections in there that keep us going or keep us stuck. For me the battle plan lies there not in another character assassination. I think that's all part of the big lie AL tells me so I keep myself stuck... That it's too hard, why is it so hard? It's hard so I must be weak ...well then what the hell, might as well try again tomorrow ...
And on and on and on...

        Here for you,

Lexi, don't give in, I too have hit bottom so many times, but I'm not giving in today! Stay strong, we're all in this boat together!

Lexi, if I were drinking at 2.30 I would be drunk, so your doing ok. Keep reading, try reading the newbies thread, you probably have, but you will see you have things in common with everyone on here. It's so hard I know, keep telling yourself you can do it, and you will. I say the serenity prayer if I feel like drinking, you don't have to be religious, but I know many folks who swear it helps. Good luck. Stick around you will get lots of support.

I will keep going. there is no wine in the house (my poison of choice) but there is a bottle of rum that belongs to my husband in the freezer (hes had it for a year and it is three quarters full lol) it is calling me..but i keep telling myself no..i dont even like rum!

                day one is hard

if i can get thru tonight, i will be forced to make it thru tomorrow also as it is my hubbys day off work. Normally I would run out before he gets home today to get tomorrows supply and hide it. On his day off he always wants to hang out all day..even goes to the grocery store with me if i say i have to go. so if i have no wine in the house it will be pretty much impossible to get, so that makes it a bit easier for tomorrow

                          Lexi,
You are doing good, just hang in there. Get through today and tomorrow, and I promise it will get easier. The hardest part for me was filling in my "drinking time". Can you plan some activities to keep your mind and body occupied?

You can do it Lexi. We're all pulling for you. Like they say, no time like the present!

AJ, you can go ahead and count on sleepless nights for about a week. It's the nature of the beast. That is, unless you get a prescription for sleep aids or something. I just toughed it out, and it does get much easier.

Have you considered following the supplement recommendations in the MWO book? You can download the book at the link below for a nominal fee if you're interested:

Quit drinking today the easy way!

and also read about it in the FAQs here:

If not, you might want to at least consider taking L-Glutamine which is great for stabilizing blood sugars and decreases alcohol cravings which is paramount in the early weeks.

Here's a link to more about L-Glut and an excerpt.

The Way Up Newsletter : Benefits of Amino Acid L-glutamine

STABILIZES BLOOD SUGAR & DECREASES ALCOHOL CRAVINGS
Glutamine does this by several mechanisms. When the blood sugar is low, Glutamine suppresses insulin to stop the further decline of the sugar levels. It also stimulates glycogen (a stored form of glucose) to be released to help increase the blood sugar to normal levels.

Further, Glutamine is a glycogenic amino acid which means it can convert to sugar for energy production, a process called gluconeogenesis. It is the most important such substance.

These blood sugar stabilizing effects may partially explain why it decreases alcohol cravings, as well as sugar cravings. In studies with alcoholics, 2000-3000 mg 3 times daily decreased the desire to drink, decreased anxiety, & improved sleep. It works best given between meals. Has been used for this purpose in daily doses from 6000-15,000 mg in 3 divided doses. Use upon arising, mid-morning & mid-afternoon between meals.

Giving Glutamine to rats decreased their voluntary alcohol consumption by 34%. When the Glutamine was stopped, their alcohol consumption returned to baseline levels.

Additionally, Glutamine supports pancreatic growth & function, increases the production of pancreatic enzymes, increases pancreatic weight, DNA, & protein content. This would also stabilize blood sugar & indirectly improve overall nutritional status.

I followed the MWO program when I first started and have been sober over 3 years. Not sure I could have done so on willpower alone.

Another thing I did that was extremely helpful was to drink tons of water with fresh lemon (not the fake stuff). It cleanses and stimulates the liver and really helps to cut cravings. Just google "benefits of lemon water" and you'll see that it's a superstar.

                              Best of luck to you.
