Going Through The Sweats..Big Time !!

Hello From Dublin Ireland. Was sober for 7 years, drank last christmas and right up to yesterday. I know from experience that I will be over the worst in 3/4 days so I had this planned. I have stocked up on food, fluids, tobacco, fresh bed so I dont need to go out, dont need to meet or do anything but go through this. I got a few sleeping tablets from the doctor which should give me sleep of sorts for the next few nights.
Today is so bad and I have had 2 showers already as I am sweating so badly but I know it will pass in a few days. I got some soup into me so far today and 2 litres of water but its tough ! I have tv and the internet and my phone is switched off.
I told anyone that matters to me that my phone is off and they understand. If there is an emergency they can call over. Cold Turkey is the only thing that works for me.
    Thank you
    Mark.

    Hi Mark.

God, I feel for you. I've done more than my share of cold turkey withdrawals. If you have access to a doctor, I would recommend getting a prescription for ativan or valium, just enough for a couple of days. It is the difference between hell and feeling very comfortable in withdrawal.

I had two years and went out. Just prior to my two years, I had arrived at a 12 step meeting, and just sat at the 'clubhouse' all day, drinking black coffee, and getting worse and worse. They were going to take me to the hospital, because they feared I would go into convulsions. I could not even drive my car home I was shaking so badly.

I was able to get a couple of valium from a nearby clinic and someone drove me and my car home. Within an hour, I felt tremendously better! I have always hated pills, but I have never forgotten the blessed relief I felt that day.

The next day I started with various supplements recommended in 'Seven Weeks to Sobriety', by Joan Larson(there is similar info available on this site). I went on a sugar free, junk free, lean protein, fresh green salad/vegetable diet. The supps and diet helped a lot with cravings. I also dropped 30 pounds in two months. I still don't take pills,(I even try to get my vitamins in liquid form) but I will never forget the relief it gave me on that terrible day.

I fell off the wagon after the two years and have been struggling ever since, but I am so happy I found this website. So many kind and supportive people, so much good advice, so many options available, advice on meds, supps. Some people want to abstain, some want to moderate, and some are glad to just have some improvement; managing to get as many days alcohol free out of every month as they can. Everyone can pursue their own goals with lots of support. Sorry to ramble on and on. Check out the Newbie's Nest. Lots of support there. I actually spent hours and hours, reading here before I got the courage to join in. Welcome! Good luck with getting through the day. So glad you are here!

Mark, sounds like you are very intelligent and a good planner and obviously VERY serious about this..... think of the sweat as all the poison getting out of your body and welcome it, I know it is easy to get restless so as horrible as going outside might sound maybe forcing yourself for a walk might help. Good luck, stay strong and keep us posted.

Are you ok, mark? Severe alcohol withdrawal can kill and should be monitored by doctors....

Well its 6am and I slept well for a few hours and feel a bit better today. I was looking for a fresh t shirt last night and found an un opened bottle of V ! I poured it down the toilet but it was such a hard thing to do. Even thinking about it now is uncomfortable. Anyway Good Morning all !!

Day 2 dusted, not easy but easier than day 1. I have been fighting tiredness since 6 o clock tonight but decided to wait until now to sleep (which I will). Demolished a full cooked chicken today ! !
