    i'm a mess

Hi struggles. It sounds like life is definitely not easy right now. I can relate to the decision to numb it all with alcohol - been there done that!

I went 60 days AF too shortly after finding MWO. (LOL - I can relate to your comments about the stairs and the elevator!!!) Things were going really well, so I decided to see if I could just drink moderately. The first day wasn't so bad, but things quickly spun out of control again. It was a real struggle to get back on the wagon after that. I found it to be really frightening. I'm wondering if you feel the same way? I was scared I would never be able to stop.

I'm glad I kept trying. I had to try many, many times over many months before AFness finally stuck again. I hope you believe in yourself and know that if I did it, and if a whole bunch of other people here have found a way to do it, you can too.

Have you checked out the "stickie" thread at the top of this section for those in crisis/withdrawal? Just want to make sure you know that withdrawal can be dangerous and that you seek medical help if you need it.

One AF baby step at a time....

If you have so much withdrawal symptoms, think about getting a doctor to help you.... It's safer and also easier to detox w their help....

Struggles, I feel your pain, I had the same problem, shakes, sweats it was awful! I went to see my doctor and he gave me librium, it still sucked but I got through it. Day one is the worst. Wishing you the best of luck!

          i'm a mess

Made it again 15 hours and had quite a bit less yesterday, but today I have had two beers again to help alleviate this shitty feeling. I only have a few beers left and I will see what today brings. I actually read yesterday and took a nap, albeit alcohol induced But I start again today. I am so sad, I feel like my life is crumbling around me and I have no control. Jason Vale's book is helping me a little and I have L glut and kudzu, although the kudzu makes me feel funny. Please keep me in your prayers, I need the support.:thanks:

Hi struggles. I will keep you in my prayers today. You are most definitely not alone. I'm so glad to hear that the supps and the Vale book are helping you some. Heck - we'll take all the help we can get, right? Keep believing from the bottom of your heart that the difficulty getting sober will all be worth it in the end.

                i'm a mess

I made it through the night and have not had anything to drink today and am hoping I don't. I have beer left that I am going to dump. I almost opened that first beer, but grabbed a soda instead. I am a little shaky and my head is kinda dizzy with a slight headache. I hope this gets better with each hour. Alcohol is NOT my friend and causes me to hide and lie and I am not that girl. I have too much to lose and with beer in my life I get lazy and can't focus. So with all my strength and help from all of you today will be my day one.

Someone posted that their dr. gave them librium to help the first few days, is that the same as xanax? I do have xanax, but not sure how much to take. Right now I only take it for anxiety, but is a low dose, .25 milligrams. I know I can take two, but not sure how much to alleviate the withdrawal. I read on another sight that some people would take benedryl. I know the showers work, the water and soup help, but this initial feeling is awful. I already took the supplements this morning and I don't crave beer, my head does

Please, again, pray for me and give me all the support you can. I really need it and want to be AF, in fact, I can NEVER drink. Funny how when we go through the AF days, we forget how horrible this is until the ride stops.

Thank you all again, I can't do this alone.

Hi Struggles, hope you are feeling marginally better. At least you have the xanax, .25 is a small dose so doubling it might help. When this used to happen to me I drank miso soup, the package kind or won ton soup. There is protein, green leafy veg and a comforting broth. I used to drink several, along with water and lemon as lemon assists in detoxing the liver faster.

We are all wishing you well and YOU WILL BE OKAY. Get a plan for the future and read The Tool Box You should start feeling better tomorrow.

                          i'm a mess

                          Hi Struggles,

Right there with you and Daisy. Day 2 for me. How many times can we go through this hell of withdrawal? I've never taken a xanax or librium. Ativan helped a little, but the thing that made the difference between hell and feeling human was valium, if you are able to get to a clinic or a doctor. I once got some 5mg and it was just enough, several times a day, to get through the first couple of days. I understand that they usually only give enough for two or three days for alcohol withdrawal, because it is pretty addictive. Also, you can't drink with it. But it was a huge, huge relief for the shakes and sweats of withdrawal!

Unfortunately, most of my countless withdrawals have been without medical assistance. The thing that helped was starting the day with several glasses of water with lots of fresh lemon squeezed into it. Also, a 500 mg GABA (with B6 added), on an empty stomach, but ok with the lemon water. These are available at any health food store.

The lemon water is not only hydrating, but helps to detox the liver and alkalinize the system. The GABA (B6 helps to facillitate absorption) is a natural relaxer that is supposed to help with dopamine. I always keep a dozen lemons on hand and a bottle of GABA, because I do this every morning, with or without a hangover. Slow deep breathing for 20 minutes is also very calming to the body.

Hope this isn't too much info, but it helped relieve some of the worst of a 'morning after' when I had nothing else available. Oh, and if you are up to it, a glass of any 'green drink' (half and hour later)also had a very stabiizing effect. Full of antioxidants and intensely nutritious to an abused body. The miso soup sounds like a great idea, skendall. Wish I had known about that. Good luck, struggles, and so glad you are here.

Struggles: glad to see you here today! I hope you pull it through today and I agree w others about Xanax, Librium, Ativan, Valium...they are all useful for detox but not to drink on them and best if you could get help from a doctor to safely detox you... Benadryl helps for mild anxiety but can't be used alone for sever withdrawal symptoms. ... Good luck and be safe today.

                              i'm a mess

19 hours with no beer. I dumped it all and cried the whole time because this addiction is so powerful. I do have the xanax and will call my dr. to see how much I can take. Right now I'm a little sweaty and shaky when I write, but not as bad as I thought. I have never heard of the miso soup, I may have to run out to get some. I did take another xanax and it seems to help a little. I detoxed last year under the supervision of an addiction psychiatrist and she had me taking Ativan for three days...i was still drunk when I started it and I had to follow up the next afternoon. Then I started the topomax and felt like my head was full of fog, but that eventually went away. I remember I craved cookies and candy and ate sugar like crazy. It took me a long time to feel normal and I am so heartbroken I threw that all away. I don't have the kids today and won't until afterschool tomorrow so I can really just laze around if the xanax makes me feel tired.

I did some laundry, that was a treat trying to make it down the stairs without falling from dizziness! I am going to make a casserole for dinner tomorrow so the kids and I have a nice meal. I have not seen my boyfriend in two weeks and he was in the area yesterday but since I was drunk, I lied and said I had a migraine.:upset: If he finds out I was on this binge, he will leave me and he is a wonderful man. I have had four sodas today and two glasses of water.

I don't have lemons, but I have pure lemon juice, will that work and can I put splenda in it?

I will keep you posted. I'm working from home today so this is a little tougher than if I was in the office, but with all of your help, I promise to try. The only way I can drink today is if I actually drove to the store to get it and I don't have any money and would have to go to the bank so that's a deterent. I am soo glad I dumped those beers. I had five left so that means I drank 23 beers I think. I don't even remember what I said to my boyfriend last night.

Again, please everyone don't give up on me. I am so frightened that I will not win this battle

Oh, my dr. also gave me a medicine called trazadone. She said they prescribe it to alcoholics and drug addicts when they detox because you won't sleep. I have never taken it and would just get up for a few hours and go back to sleep. Anyone with any info on this medication? She also gave me remeron for sleep and I did take that, but it didn't react well with me..it made my legs restless and I felt jumpy. I had to take benedryl to stop it.

Thank you again, you guys may just save my life.:h

You sound much better today. I'm proud of you for pouring out the beer. That was my poison of choice too. It's not easy to let it go, until you see it for what it is. It's a thief that will rob you of time, money and your health. It is NOT your friend and it never was, it's been lying to you all this time.

Drink lots and lots of liquids and eat toast or crackers to settle your stomach. Taking a nice hot bath with epsom salts will help relax you.

Please keep posting...you CAN do this and we can help.
