Over 300 days and Brutal cravings today..

Thanks guys/gals ThinK i might go to an AA meeting just to meet some real people to talk to, even though I do not believe in the disease concept it may do me some good as I feel I am all alone in the real world doing this.

My best friend used to ride a motorcycle. She got into a bad accident a couple of years ago - she hit a deer. Broke both wrists, plus I think one ankle - plus numerous other injuries. Still - she was very lucky. Most people who hit a deer going at any speed die quickly.

She is a single mom with 3 kids - all under 17 at the time (youngest was about 8). She also has her own business and I'm sure she didn't have any sort of long term care in her insurance. Not sure about life insurance either.

She realized afterwards that she can't afford to ride again because of her work situation and her kids. That lasted for a while but last summer she bought herself another bike. It's a trike, so maybe a little more stable, but still - I have to shake my head at some decisions people make.

Why can't I see my own consequences this clearly? I guess I think - it's not going to happen to me. I have to change that. I need to realize that early death due to liver damage WILL be me UNLESS I stop doing what I am doing forever.
Well it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

        199days,

I believe what you experienced happens to ALL of us at one point or another. I recently have been fighting the beast mentally. All I was seeing was the romanticized version of a drink, not the reality of getting drunk (which, of course would inevitably happen, I have NEVER had ONE drink...ever!). I am at day 461 so you are right there with me!! Good job in riding it out and noticing what the alcohol was really doing to those people around you...I"m sure it wasn't pretty was it? Anyway, hang in there, you are doing absolutely wonderful, and these feelings are normal. Just ride it out and it will pass!

        Love,
        K9

199- Yes, this happens; it is "normal" for me. I just give thanks that I am the sober one, offering to drive others home.
And waking up at a normal time the next day, with no headache.
Stay Strong! You have proved you can control your urges. Keep in control.

                      Thank you so much.

Very serene and content of late, life is so precious sober. Had a hellish nightmare two nights ago, I was drinking it felt so real, when I awoke I was just so happy it was a dream. Feel like its my brain telling me I am doing the right thing being sober.

Day 480 Strong drink thoughts over weekend, warm weather siting in garden Normal drink romantic thoughts. Think it through to the end and where it leads quickly puts a stop to it.

Think My mind is still doing its best at times to send me off the rails, but I know I AM Not missing nothing, its a drug and an addiction coupled with brainwashing from an early age. I respect everyone's views, but I do myself only believe that it is a drug addiction and nothing else.

                        Stay sober peeps.

                          Hi 199-

Wow...you're at day 480...I am at day 496 and guess what? My daughter told me last night that she's going to her grandma's in Seattle for most of the month of June, and guess what my first thought was? Yep..."I can drink!" Granted, it only lasted a minute, and my mind immediately switched to "Good, now I can stay at the gym guilt-free". But that first thought stopped me in my tracks. Good job thinking it through...I did the same thing, I had flashes of what REALLY happens when I drink and it ain't pretty!

p.s. I don't want it to seem like I'm happy my daughter is leaving, I'm not...but since she IS leaving I have to find something positive about it!

Well done ! and Thanks for your input. Thinking it through the drink and think the weeks after through hangovers slavery to it and the worst of all for me, the Obsession with it, when I can drink, when cant I drink ,planning it and worrying about it etc etc. Fck all that sober is cool.

IMO you are correct......it is simply a drug addiction. Problem is society, and even some here, see it as an acceptable way to socialise.

My fault is not my response to alcohol but the very fact I am incredibly strong and could tolerate a HUGE amount.

There is a lot of research into the damage to neurotransmitters in early childhood due to poor parenting, but since 90% of families in the western world are now dysfunctional the argument is moot, since the majority have the same damage.
