    I can't sleep!

I take a very low dose of seroquel 25mg. It is commonly supplied for insomnia and is a life saver in the early days of AFness. Ask your GP it is widely prescribe for sleep and is non addictive. Best of luck to you.

Time released is steady release ....better for lifting mood rather than sleep
Kuya now that you mention it, what I've used is 'dual-release' melatonin, which has both types, to give you the hit right away and the slower release to help keep you asleep. Swanson makes one.

Cool, never realised that you could get a combined one. I might try that cos sometimes I miss ' the window' and then anxiety over not sleeping crowds back in.

Is Swanson in the US? Do you have a price? Sometimes it is cheaper to have a friend ship it than to order internationally.

          I can't sleep!

I had chronic sleep problems for years, due to alcoHELL and other things, at one stage I was popping 3 zopiclone and drinking a bottle or two of red wine every night. To get over my sleep problems I had to let it go , no sleep meds whatsoever nothing . Sleep meds/ cures etc keep you obsessing and in the zone , do not worry if you do not sleep, you can still function albeit a bit groggy . Just say to yourself I will do whatever I have to do tomorrow or the next weather I sleep or not. I had some congenital behaviour therapy a long time ago , this is the mantra they installed in me it works. Let it go, do not take anything that is supposed to make you sleep.
I still continued drinking for years after getting off the sleep meds, disrupted fitful sleep was the best I could manage. Getting your body in a natural state , totally drug free is the only way. Yes I had same problems as you in my early sober day, but now sleep is a revelation, it is that good.

Get into the mindset, if I don't sleep ..who cares ! Just carry I and do not worry about it.
          Sober since 13th January 2012

            I can't sleep!

I would love to do that but right now it's just not an option for me during the week. After a few days I can't function at work and I make bad decisions. I do try to sleep drug free on the weekends.

I have been taking zzz-quil and it's wonderful. I'll see how I do without it this weekend and if I do well I'll try to go without next week. I may just drop back to a half dose instead of the full dose if I find I can't sleep without it.
Well it's all right now. I've learned my lesson well. You see you can't please everyone, so you've got to please yourself.

The problem is insomnia is the number one reason quoted for relapse, 199.

Siren, I know you are still early on in your quit but I promise you it does settle down gradually. Take what you need occasionally as long as it is non addictive. Maybe use alternate days and slug out the other days so you are not psychologically dependant.

If I remember right my sleep settled around day 90 and now, like everyone , I only have the odd night (usually Sunday cos I slept in) when it takes time.

The main thing is to rest so go to bed, stay in bed and plan all the things you can now do with your new found health and sobriety. ( I want to write )

I am so tired right now. I'm averaging about 4.5 hours of sleep these days. In my drinking days, I could always fall asleep easily (I.e., pass out). Then I would wake up in the middle of the night, be awake for an hour or two, then fall back to sleep until my alarm went off.

These days I can't fall asleep until 11 or 12 and I still wake up in the early hours of the morning and can't fall back to sleep. Plus my sleep is fitful and not a deep restful sleep. I can't go on like this. When does the 'good sleep' start?
Have you spoken to your Dr about anti depressants? Also herbal remidies such as Melatonin
or Valerian root? I have some Valium for when I really can't shut the mind off and I also listen to deep sleep meditations on utube. And I am exercising every day so I am tired at night.

Hope this might be of some help.

                  I can't sleep!

Thanks, Red. It's been OK with the zzz-quil during the week. I had nothing last night and slept ... ok, I guess. Had to drag myself out of bed at 6:45 to make it to my jiu jitsu class. But here I sit wide awake at nearly 11 PM.

                    I can't sleep!

Hi! The insomnia was the worst for me. I've heard it's the number one reason that people go back to drinking. I think the supplements on this site make all the difference but the the ones that helped me the most were melatonin and calmes forte. Without them I would not have slept for weeks!! They really help. Good luck to you!!!
