I am no expert on alcoholism or baclofen or anything else, really ....but I can share what happened to me. Baclofen gave me the power to say no to my compulsion to drink alcohol. If I dared to push my luck and see what it felt like to drink, then baclofen would become less and less a help until it no longer was effective at all. This time it gave me the power to quit and now I have to remain ever vigilant not to start up again....ever! It is not a magic bullet. It was a valuable tool for me.

I slipped and hit the bottle last nite. Big time. Did not black out but I look Chinese today. That would be fine if I was from there. The old feelings are coming back. Yikes.

Drinking on Bac gave me the most horrific hangovers, and that was only on about 30 mg. When you say old feelings started coming back....do you mean the enjoying drinking part, or angry feelings where you used AL to try and numb the pain? Try not to let it rattle you or overthink it too much. Try to make today an AF day and go from there.:l

I don't know what dosage you are on, but what made a difference for me was that when I had a slip last May, I upped my dosage from 30 mgs. to 40 mgs. and I changed the dosing times. I take the 20 mgs. about 11:00 a.m. and the other 20 at 3:00 p.m. and it so works on cravings or just telling my brain that it is not cocktail hour. The point is, is that just upping the dosage and getting that dose closer to the end of the day has really made my AF journey a lot easier.

You can do this....you've done it before. Remember how good it feels to be AF. That helped me.

Awe, COS; sorry you feel like caca. I think I'm correct in saying that are not the first to put yourself in this situation. I'd go over and post this on the Meds Thread, if I were you.

But my $.02? You might be able to get "out" by titrating up for a while. Or you may have to titrate all the way down, and start again . . . start again. That's actually what Ameisen did, after he'd been taking bac for a while, then sorted out that High Dose would be required. He went back to the very beginning, and got systematic about increasing his doses.

The one thing I've tried to maintain respect for has been not "over-drinking" baclofen. That has worked for me. But you and I both know a bunch of folks who over-drank it, for a long, long time. And found that baclofen still keeps on workin'. Look forward to finding out what some of the other "old timers" suggest.

And you can probably dig up some threads from Bleep, Moglor, and others, that relate to where you are now. ALL is NOT lost!!! Onward!!

I only use baclofen as a safety net. With baclofen I have not had even a passing thought as to drinking alcohol. I will always have antabuse near me and will take it so that I can not drink if the compulsion ever hits me again.

Meh, I think I figured out my issue. I have some serious back probs. Still working to get my darn MRI.

Chiro thinks herniated and maybe more on my L2 and L4.

Guess I am just looking for relief. The meds I got (Norco) did not help. Tramadol was like pez. It's tough being in pain but gotta deal with it.

Hoping for an epidural soon and that working.

Just another hurdle to surmount and I will.

Funny thing is no SE's. When you are as screwed up with your back issue as me bac is like pez. I am at 240 now. Not drinking all day but throwing about 4 back at the end of the work day for some short relief. I know, lame but this darn pain. Sadly the booze helps a bit. I don't crave it, I crave pain relief and I don't mean anxiety and all that b.s. I don't wake up thinking about it or wanting it.

Maybe I can get a cadaver spine and be done with this. Sorry too much Walking Dead. It's all good. At least I understand it now.

Hope you feel better soon Cos!. I also hope you get your MRI quick. I'm concerned about you mixing alcohol with norcos, & bac... I can't say I've never done it, mixing norcos, muscle relaxers & alcohol, but as we get younger it changes things..... Plzz ~ plzz be careful hun!....:l

Thanks Wildflowers. Not mixing any norcos or muscle relaxers. The booze isn't really helping either so I am laying off that. No SE's from the bac oddly enough. I am at 240 and may even go higher.

I am going to a pain mgmt doc soon. Waiting on the darn MRI. I really don't want meds, booze, anything. I'll be good to go soon.
