I havent had a drink in about 12 days and was considering having a few at a friends today. Im a little concerned because last time I drank I got bad withdrawal symptoms. This was after a three day binge and was the first time I ever had any noticable withdrawal symptoms. I was a heavu drinker for about 8 years and now Im trying to cut back to maybe once or twice a month. Do you think drinking one night after a twelve day dry will cause withdrawal. I dont want to go through that again. It only lasted about 24 hours but it was intense with hallucinations. Anxiety and all that stuff.

Jojoo....
I hope you will reconsider drinking....you've done the hard physical work of detoxing...why would you want to go through that again? What you're up against now is dealing with the ingrained brain circuitry that needs rewiring. Sure...you're getting the signals from deep within the mesolimbic that say, "...friends...drink...good." Well...you know that in reality...."drink...bad." The fact is....alcohol is a toxin. An addicting toxin. It changes your brain. It poisons every part of your body. And other than a few fleeting slivers of time where it seems 'fun' the balance of time is spent dealing with the mounting consequences of a progressive and ultimately deadly addiction.
Here's another reality check. 'Quitting' doesn't get any easier. It's just the way the toxin works. Every time you drink you damage your brain. Sometimes a little. Sometimes a lot.
The really good news? You are 12 days on a path that is leading to a radically different life. It is within your reach to find the genuine buzz that mind-peace, clear thinking and poison-free living can bring.
So....can you find the strength to hang out with your friends without drinking? If the answer is no...then....can you find something else to do today....something that will keep you building on the hard-won progress you have made in finding your way to what is really good in life...and in reality....what we all want out of life?
Please let us know how you're doing....we're here to help and support.Sober for the Revolution!

This is GREAT JoJoo! You did something exceptionally important tonight....you began breaking the connections your brain makes with hanging and playing and drinking. That is huge. Keep doing that and you'll be on your way to living the way you really want to live.
As for tomorrow...there are a lot of good folks who are learning how to break the addiction over in the Newbies Nest under the Just Starting Out Thread. There's always room for more there. And the Toolbox (under the Monthly Abstinence Thread) is packed with great info to help in the early days of living addiction free.
I hope you stick around....JoJooFu! We need more guitarists around here! I am happy to be a cheerleader for you....but I am not much of a drummer. I can play accordion, though.Sober for the Revolution!

i think we forget the Pain,of with drawl,i no i do or did, maybe the brain has a way of shutting it out,but when it happens again the old body is the 1st to acknowledge it,[the Pain]Turn has the rite idea there are many threads on this site you can dabble with,12 days is a good start one day you mite look back with 1200 days maybe 12000,the old saying our brain can only fathom one day at a time, the rest is to much to think about i wish you well Jojofu

Don't mean to be harsh but sometimes we don't see the insanity of our drinking thoughts and/or behaviors on our own. I know I didn't.
Congratulations on making an excellent choice last night! One day at a time has gained a lot of meaning for me.
DGSobriety Date = 5/22/08
Nicotine Free Date = 2/27/07
One day at a time.
