    trying to stop.

This is really helping to have a place to turn to when frustrated. Thank you all for helping me. One day at a time.
No matter how far you go or how fast you run, you can't get away from yourself. ....said at an AA meeting. It stuck with me.

      trying to stop.

Exactly. I still take it ODAAT when I need to.
I quit drinking on March 8, 2020. Taking it One Day At A Time and no more taking my quit for granted.

Also doing it for me. I got to stay sober for me.

Just consecrate on today and do what you can to remain sober for today and worry about staying sober tomorrow, tomorrow.

        trying to stop.

I've been on a bender for days now, just running away from life. So depressed but I want to stop. I must stop. I'm going to do it.

        Day 1.

          Nooff,

          :welcome:

Having come off many benders myself, I understand.

Treat yourself as if you have the flu: rest, fluids, food when tolerated.

Hang in there and ask for help when you need it.

                trying to stop.

                Hi, NoOffSwitch

I don't have one, either, and I just told a friend the other day that a drink seemed to push the accelerator!

If you haven't been there yet, the Newbies Nest is a great place to hang out at the beginning (or longer !). The link is in my signature as is one to the toolbox, which is full of ideas for making this happen.

:welcome: and I hope to see you over in the nest!

                    trying to stop.

Had a rough weekend, but I'm still here. I Did manage to stay alcohol free. Sunday hobby came in with a 6pack and offered me one. I just said no thanks. Didn't make a big deal of it. I know it will take awhile for everyone else to take me serious. The important thing is to keep taking myself serious. Also, he made it through the weekend w/out smoking that demon crack. I really hope he makes it this time. We have been down this road so many times before and it is so disappointing when he gives in to that craving. Send us both your best.

                      trying to stop.

Hubby drinking again tonight. I really wonder where he gets the money from? I am not giving any more than what is immediately needed for milk or whatever. We are suppose to go to friends this weekend. He already put in an order for beer for me. I will not drink it but I may not even go. I might developed an interesting Stomach virus or something. I wish he could see what an asss He is when he drinks. I know I look the same. Really hard to be around a drinker at this time. I wish he gave more thought to how his actions affect Me. I feel pretty insignificant in his eyes when he is like this
oh well. I will not drink today or this weekend. I will not drink for me.:l

                        trying to stop.

LB, It is hard in the early stages of sobriety, especially socialising and with everyone else pouring the poison into them. I usually arrive with a can of Diet Coke or did try once some al free beer. Best of Luck.Do it for YOU, thats all that matters. I have started AB today so no the next week or so is going to be tough! I am off work today so spending lots of time on mwo looking for inspiration and a chat to others who no the suffering we alkies go through. I will never no what its like to be a normal drinker because i am an alcoholic, wierd isn,t it?

You are 100 percent correct when you say you do it for you. That's when I finally started realizing.

Social gatherings can be tough, but it gets easier, especially when people realize you are serious. There will be some folks that never will get it though. Can't really advise what to do there. Myself, I just distanced myself from them and realized that with quite a few of them, drinking was ALL I we really had in common.

                            trying to stop.

Rip, so true. Last year I went to a retirement farewell and drank diet coke. It was weird, as the noise levels got higher and higher,I found I was a bit lost. Everyone was drinking,so I decided to go for a drive and returned a bit later. I need to LEARN how to deal with these social situations as booze is everywhere in this country, doesn,t matter what the occasion. Started Ab today

Ya, I am in Japan and its exactly the same. Booze for all occasions. Japanese are a pretty reserved and uptight people with one exception: When they drink, they drink with a purpose that would probably make most of us in HERE cringe, lol. (Like vomiting in front of the establishment type drinking, quite common to see here)

What is AB by the way? Unfamilliar with the term

Sorry Rip, AB is Antabuse. Its a drug thats been around a long time. My DR reckons it is the best and therefore prescribes it for alkies. Its a drug not to mess with. I have had it before, but thought I could moderate my al intake, and stopped. Me moderate!!!! I am an alcoholic and will never ever be able to drink in Mod,like most of us around here! As someone said,IF you could moderate then you would,t need MWO as you would be a normal drinker. Getting back to AB,if you drink when taking it,and I have, the reaction is severe. Headaches, hot flushes,vomiting......very bad! It like all your hangovers at once. I think what it does is completly removes the question...do I drink or not. So there is no mind games. You just can,t unless u want to be very, very sick.
