    Baclofen and Xanax?

    Hi all,

Can anyone help me out here. My husband is on 120 mg a day of baclofen. He is now relapsing on pills I believe. Xanax or Valiums or some benzodiazepines I presume, as it was in the past. He takes a LOT usually, according to him. He is very out of it a lot and of course this is scary.

Is he in danger from taking tons of Xanax plus 120 mg baclofen for example?? Should he taper off the baclofen? Should he continue increasing the baclofen dosages up? Or take 50 mg at a time or something for cravings.

Why is the baclofen not working more? He says he's not on pills, but I am 99.9% of the time correct in knowing when he is. Plus he is leaving the house constantly.

Okay thank you, this is urgent as I am concerned, and not sure what to do from here forward now with his baclofen, and whether baclofen even really works or not now. But Olivier said it must be high dose baclofen, so maybe why not working more.

    Baclofen and Xanax?

This sounds serious - I think you need to take him to a doctor ASAP. Benzo withdrawals are as dangerous as alcohol withdrawals. I checked the drug interaction checker on drugs.com, which is my go-to to check for interactions (they seem to be the most conservative in assessing possible interactions), and while they only had the interaction between xanax and bac listed as "moderate," both drugs depress central nervous system activity. Worst case scenario (and I only throw this out there because you say he takes a LOT of pills), he could just stop breathing. I think this is a problem out of our league here at MWO and needs to be dealt with by a doctor tonight if possible. If you don't want to deal with an ER, you need to monitor his condition closely and make sure he sees a physician as soon as possible.

Please, dear God tell me he isn't drinking, at least.
In the middle of my life's journey, I found myself in a dark wood, as I had lost the straight path. It is a difficult thing to speak about, how wild, harsh and impenetrable that wood is. Just thinking about it recreates the fear. It is scarcely less bitter than death, but in order to tell of the good that I found there, I must tell of the other things I saw there. --Dante, paraphrased
