    Scared of Withdrawal

Hi, I'm basically a binge drinker. I might binge monthly, but now coming off the last 12 days drinking 9 or 10 days. I drink, get dehydrated, sometimes hospitalized for fluids and then stay off using the herbal supplement Kratom. Then monthly, but maybe twice monthly since Oct/Nov, go on a binge lasting less than four days. When, I binge I can drink 24 beer a day. Right now is day 3. I don't have shakes, but nightmares. Sometimes nightsweats, but that happens anyway. Might heart races also, but that's possibly from dehydration. What's the possibility of DT's or hallucinations?

XW hello and welcome. You are up to day 3 so i think you are over the worst of it but go to the drs if you are worried. I just had anxiety for a few days and could not sleep and sweats and then it stopped. Keep up the fluids and dont drink. Head over to the Newbies Nest lots of people on and off there with great advice.

That should wear off soon buddy, nightmares last may be around 5 days and cold sweats around ten. Hang in there and fight it out. Think about the shit that Al has put you in and just make sure the bottle is out your life's equation...

Forgot to add, I used to continue drinking for the rear of withdrawal and when I stopped, bang...nothing, looked like a fool to myself. As available said mild effects are temp and will wear away....

Available same advise you gave me when I quit....eat healthy and drink fluids a lot..

3 days I'd say you are in the clear, from what I remember it's the first 24-48 hours which is the riskiest time.
I used the Sinclair Method to beat my alcoholic drinking.

Drank within safe limits for almost 2 years

Be careful, though. You say that you have been hospitalized for fluids in the past. Some people are much better after day 3 while others are not and may need some medical assistance. Take good care of yourself!

                Agree with humble,

This is from a doc I spoke, when you are recovering from Al abuse, drink water with a small dose of common salt, Nacl, I.e a pinch for a litre. The rationale is simulating a saline iv in way. Also, if you are lactose tolerant, low fat milk is excellent due to natural potassium and sodium supported with lactose for the absorption spike. Moreover, the proteins in milk is a good mix of caesin and way with complete bcaa which should help build muscle tissues tarnished with prolonged alcohol abuse.

                Best,

Not a Dr, nor do I play one on TV, but binge drinkers usually don't have to worry about DTs, seizures, etc because they come off of the booze so often and spend more time sober than drinking. At least early in their drinking careers.

If each of your drinking bouts is sufficient to lead to withdrawal symptoms, then every time you binge and go through withdrawal becomes more dangerous. And that goes for everyone who quits drinking over and over. For a few days you have the shakes and sweats and don't sleep well but soon you're ok.

But those add up. There is a phenomenom called "kindling" which simply means that every time your body goes through detoxification the severity of the withdrawal symptoms increases. There may come a time when you didn't drink any more or any longer than before, but bad things start to happen.

Do a little research on kindling and also on post acute alcohol withdrawal syndrome. Then just be alert for anything that seems worrisome, and if there is someone close who knows what you're going through, let them know to kind of keep an eye on you.

It's never a bad idea to talk this kind of thing over with your doctor. If nothing else, he might be able to restore your peace of mind I've probably wrecked.
