Why do I drink myself to sleep every night

Hi Needtoheal, I'm new also but being on here really helps to know you're not alone. That could be part of the reason you're drinking to sleep. I do the same because I am lonely, my husband is gone a lot. Keep reading, I went a few weeks without mwo and I felt a huge difference. Good luck dear!

Hi there, I have also drunk for many many years, I am turning 45 in july and I am desperate for this to be a sober birthday and to keep stopped for good, I am sick of the vicious cycle I have got myself locked into! Mwo is fantastic and everyone here is great, wishing you success :welcome:

Why do I drink myself to sleep every night

Hi all I've also had a drink problem for many years. And i'm in my early 50's also living alone. I get a few weeks of sobriety here and there but staying stopped is my problem. I have to this before it kills me or seriously damages my health. I get lonely and a bit bored at times so I plan to come here daily and read post and get help. Not an AA fan but thinking going back to a couple of meetings a week.
If you always do what you have always done, you will get what you always got.

          Hi needtoheal.

You've come to the right place for support. 52 is still young, so don't give up, you've got many years ahead .

I feel alone too. In fact, some days i do not feel that i connect with anyone and really wonder what the future holds as i'm middle aged with no kids.

All that aside, i'm sort of in the same boat and these are my thoughts:

          - you need to set some goals. One at a time is a good start, eg, 'to get fit'.
          - it helps if you've got a hobby, eg, something you love to do, whether it be collecting something, or merely reading books.

And thirdly, here's the rub: YOU NEED TO LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF above all other things.

Check in and let us know how you're going

          Change
One day at a time.. Sometimes it's one minute or one second at a time.. Most important thing is to look ahead and don't look back!
