New and Scared

I am so grateful to have found this site.

I have been drinking excessively for the past 10 years and I have come to the end of my rope. My husband of one year is divorcing me because he can no longer watch me slowly kill myself. I have been hiding my addiction from family and friends, still functioning well at work and never drinking excessively in public. I wait until I get home.

My father drank himself to death, and I swore I would never be him...I was mistaken.

I am have always had difficulty sleeping, and that's how my drinking began. I counsel people daily about the effects that alcohol has on sleep, yet I go home and drink until I pass out.

I want to stop the madness. I am ready. But, I don't know how to begin...

This is the first time I have acknowledged to others that I have a drinking problem.

Again, I am grateful to have found MWO.

You made the first big step... you acknowledged that you have a problem & are ready to change. Be proud of yourself for that. Many people never even get to that point.
Where do we begin?? We begin by putting our wishes into action..... no more "I should", "I wish I could"... we change those to "I am".... "I have pledged to myself from this moment on, I will do whatever it takes to get & stay sober". And then we take it one day at a time, learning & growing on this journey of sobriety.
